@Dashrender - The feature set really doesn't matter in this case unless I need to specify the speed/duplex mode but I was mostly just saying that there was a difference, not that it mattered much to me. I am concerned with the reliability factor and at the prices for those switches, it is still not nearly as much as I was planning on spending with the direct integration with my Sophos.

@wrx7m I have not purchased an ER-X SFP yet, but if the SFP is on the swithc chip, I would go that route. I mean for $60 + the SFP module you can have a lot of spares.

Best price I could find (fast) was $73 prime on Amazon, plus SFP.

I haven't been able to beat the price on SFPs direct from Unifi

$17 for two - just damn!!! that's awesome!

While it was a bit more on UBNT for the ER-X SFP vs Amazon, I just ordered both together from them.

So just configure the erx to run as a switch only, connecting SFP to ISP side and CAT6 to my sophos' side and be good to go?

yes. you are jsut using a switch at this point.

Right, the only configuration you'll be doing is checking the appropriate boxes as shown in my picture. Literally, two check boxes and save.

Though you should change the password on it.

You should also still update the firmware.

Do you know if you can disable config access on certain interfaces/ports on the erx?

You can restrict by firewall rules to IP.

You can leave eth2 off of switch0 and give eth2 a different IP block or restrict the IP block to something. But why? This is not a normal thing done with switches. They have config also. You still have to log in.

I was trying to figure out how to say this - JB's exactly right.

In fact you have options if you want to enable yourself to manage this remotely, not that you should probably ever need to. Set eth2 to an IP on your network, then plug that into your network, this assume you have a second cable from your switch to that room.

But really that's probably not necessary.
