Question though, the maps shows in 1942 that the "country of German" was HUGE... is that right? or is this map not showing countries, but instead showing political power? I didn't think the countries that Germany invaded lost their names as countries during that time, or did they?

If I recall correctly, and I may not, the countries that Germany invaded were annexed and became part of Nazi Germany.

That is how I was taught.
