I made my own, but you can pickup pre-made/supported units for $200. I like my DIY one, and can expand it quite a lot still.

Not that hard, the hardest part is probably feeding the data into your SNMP daemon . Haven't checked that yet. -
Watchdog units aren't bad, they can be pricey though.

Basic DIY is
a) $60 + time (depends on the case (IP level), sensors and actors)
b) a lot to learn
c) customizable like nothing else
