Made news writing... the country was not the Czech Republic in the 1980s and isn't now. Using only an interim name that was neither the country's name at the time or now is the only option that doesn't make sense.

I have always felt that these two vendors were way too similar.

I've always had good results with either one.... The power of the machine I worked on determined which one got installed.

Did I miss a memo? It has been the Czech Republic since the early 1990's with the downfall of the communist party.

They renamed it a few months ago. It is Czechia.

Maybe it was a few weeks. It was in the news. Czechia had always been used as a short form name, but it was switched to be the official English language name of the country just recently. It was while I was in Romania that they renamed it, I am pretty sure. For some reason it didn't make much news.

And that article clearly states that they are only seeking to change their short name / familiar name to Czechia in the U.N databases. There is nothing in there about a name change for their formal name. It is still the Czech Republic.

When I had seen it reported before, the mention of only being their shorter name was not mentioned and it was reported as the formal name being changed in English (e.g. they said "Czech Republic changed to Czechia."
