how to format it and what are the prerequisite (maybe i have to install a monitoring tool to log the server issues, i don't know ) i have to know to do that, it is my first time to format a server grade computers

If you format it, there won't be anything on it, so nothing to log issues. What do you want to install on it?

Why are you formatting it? What is causing you to want to do that? We can't really help without knowing what you are attempting to do.

knowing that there will be no RAID, the RAID controller was broken so i decided to connect the HD directly to the motherboard using a SATA cable

Formatting does not remove or touch RAID. Formatting erasing everything ON TOP of the RAID. It does not clear the system in any way.

Installing anything first would make no sense since the instant you start formatting everything on the box will be gone.

Why format? That won't help you in any way. The layer below the formatting will be wiped out by the XenServer install anyway. Who told you that formatting would do something here? Formatting will blow away your data, but won't take away the partitions from Windows. They will linger on until XenServer repartitions the space.

Just pop in the XenServer Cd and away you go. No need to set things up first.

Right, it's just like any other PC. Nothing special happening 🙂

because i heard before that for servers there is like a tool that give the state of the server, but i'm not remembering in which context i hear it

I think we would need more information to understand what they were trying to tell you.

A server is just a PC. Better built, meant to hold more stuff, rack mount rails and all that... but a PC is a PC under the hood.

And then install Xen Orchestra too. Best way to run XenServer! If you are just doing this for a test or a small transition, get the appliance for free. Limited, but super easy to get started.

thank you , it works like a charm
now i just successfully virtualize my win7 machine with VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client, then i import the VMDK into XenServer, then i installed xenserver tool, everything is OK but my question here is why i didn't get activation message from windows, as far as i'm concerned when the platform change from P to V, the system ask you to activate it again, !!
