Solved Printer not available in RDS published app
-
The setup:
LoB application runs on a Server 2008 R2 VM.
The RDS role is fully configured and works fine.
The shortcut to the RDS app is pushed to user desktops via GPO.
The printers are pushed via GPO also. What changed:
I migrated the printer server role from DC01 to DC02
DC01 is an old SBS2008 (P2V about 2 years ago) that is being decommissioned.
DC02 is a Server 2012R2 VM.What is happening:
Users all have the printers on their machines showing correctly as "XXX on DC02"
When a users launches the LoB RDS app, 2 of the 9 printers will not show up for most, but not all, users.
The two that refuse to show up are both HP LaserJet Professional P 1102w. They are also the only printers of that model in the office. -
Note: I hate printers...

What happens if you try to manually map it as a test for one user?

Users have no access to anything on the RDS server. Even if you manually log in to a full RDP session instead of the remote app. The experience has been locked down by the vendor. Clicking on Devices and printers will open the GUI but when you click add printer you are denied. Command prompts cannot be opened via start -> run either.

I have apparently resolved the issue by virtue of changing drivers 3 or 4 times and rebooting the RDS box as well as the user desktops a few dozen times.
As of right now, all the printers are suddenly showing up. I am not sure why beyond assuming it was a matter of reboots and drivers getting changed.

If the driver version on the Print server didn't match the one on the RDS - that might have something to do with it.
I suppose in the future, you could have tried to log into the server as an administrator and compared the driver version on the RDS to the version on the print server.
Even though Windows is suppose to update the driver on the client when the driver is updated on the Print Server, I've rarely if ever actually seen it work.

@Dashrender logged in as the administrator there were no printers. I added and deleted the printer from there multiple times.
