Indoctrination into Islam?

In this case, art is the lens through which we look at religion and its impacts. If you didn't learn about this and travel the Islamic world you would be confused why it is the way that it is. It's not just important as a religious study, but as a general cultural one too.

OK, and sorry I must've missed that the class is a class on Religion.
Which if it is, what other assignments have been used that might be controversial? Did the teacher assign the students to buy a Quran and burn it?
How would that teach you about religion? That kind of goes against the whole point of the class right?

I think that he meant to imply that some popular religions in America exist with no doctrine of their own but are essentially nothing but a means to be anti-Islamic. Just hatred with no point of their own.

It would teach you how pissed off Islamic followers get about burning their holy book I suppose.
Just using it as an example of something that would offend and light a firestorm under the other half.

Huh? I guess I haven't heard about these specific hate groups at least none that are religious.

Ah. Well it isn't a Christian thing to hate learning about other religions. It's not a religious stance that is pissing people off.

Sorry, I missed your point. I generally get very emotional when people start talking about burning books... it draws too many similarities to some of the things @scottalanmiller was avoiding a few posts ago.

Go to any country in the Middle East and assign them Christian or Jewish doctrine for homework. I am sure they would react 10x worse.

It shoudl also be noted that this was World Geography class... When I was coming up through school, Geography was mostly maps and history. It would mention the various religions, but wouldn't go into the doctrine at all, except that "Folks from this religion hated that religion and vice versa, so they waged war a lot" type stuff.

Just to be noted as well
"While there has been no specific threat of harm to students, schools and school offices will be closed Friday, December 18, 2015," Augusta County Schools said.
The SAME day as @Dashrender birthday and the new Starwars Movie.... stuff is starting to get fishy!!!

Basically all the teachers and administration wanted the day off so they could go to the midnight premier.
