ScreenConnect Dependencies on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Desktop
-
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS with default install trying to install ScreenConnect. I'm going to go into a Java rage here in a minute.
-
Ubuntu is not amused...
-
After accepting the warning, Ubuntu was happy to install the package without errors.
-
And here I am posting from Firefox on Ubuntu, so things seem to be working quite well. ScreenConnect on Ubuntu 14.04.3 works well, except that it needs Java.
OpenJDK 7, the default Java option in Ubuntu, works fine.
-
can you upgrade to JRE 8?
-
OpenJDK 7 is what is provided for and supported with the platform. You can always add your own Java to Ubuntu and manage it yourself if you want.
-
I'm guessing on Linux you're less worried about viruii taking advantage of security flaws?
I suppose the Java security options that limits what sites will use Java are in Ubuntu also.. so you're probably pretty safe.

@Dashrender You move from 7 to 8 for features, not for security. This is a fully patched and fully managed version of 7, so actually staying on it for security, not in spite of it.
Also, remember this is OpenJDK not Oracle JRE so fully open source, visible to the community, audited and no history of security problems.
