Should AJ Open Crazy AJ's?

When I cruised to the Bahama's, I found a Dunkin' Donuts that had free WiFi, I definitely spent around $10 there on drinks and snacks while I surfed the web.
It might be better to offer free WiFi and get the money from other things. Don't offer free power though.

Doesn't work that way here. Your business would be surrounded by locals using the free Internet and paying customers would be unable to get to the door. In works in the US and other rich countries for a combination of financial and social factors. Businesses are large and wifi doesn't extend to fifty other businesses and homes, the profit on coffee is huge, the spare expenditure power of everyone is huge. There is big money to be made on coffee and nothing to be made on wifi.
Opposite here. Businesses are all touching each other, there is no social stigma to sitting on the steps or sidewalk using the wifi, profits on coffee are low and on Internet are high, etc.

aww.. well, definitely have to take the local situation into account... good to know.

Okay, just had some locals stop by the house and talk to me. They are renting a full house currently, here in Granada (most expensive city in the country) for $400/mo. So an apartment should be no more than $200 for what @thanksajdotcom needs to get started if he chooses to be here in the Granada area. That gives us a bit more solid of a number to work with. I would be quite surprised if he could not get below $200.
The people with the $400 house were working professionals who own a business and were looking to move into our area and stopped by to talk about the block and if we knew of available rental homes.

$400 for a full house in the city? How big is the city?

My wireless mouse here really sucks. If there was a Crazy AJ's I would walk down there and buy a Logitech wireless mouse right now.

How much do you pay for internet access, @scottalanmiller ?
-
It is included in my rent. Along with my pool guy, house maintenance and maid service.

Mind if we ask what that runs?

Rent? We are paying $1,200. It's a luxury tourist rental. Good price for that, we have a whole staff of people that maintain the place for us. We see at least three different people, at least one of them three times a week! And we are right in the tourist area. And things like Internet is included. It's a cost premium for the kind of place that it is.

What kind of internet speeds do you have and what kind of speeds would be available?

I just finished reading through all the posts I missed. I was passed out for 12 hours...I was exhausted. It's an interesting idea for sure.

Great ping speed and 2/1 is not so bad for "free included" Internet. No idea what is available, though. I've not spoken to any ISPs.

From wikipedia:

Looks like 4Mb/s is $50/USD per month.
-
4Mb/s is probably more than enough for an Internet cafe. He could probably trim that down. Especially if he put in a cache of some sort too.

This thread is a joke, right?
