Remote Access for home user

I have a friend that has a small business. (2 people) They have an office PC and a home PC. She needs to remote into her home PC from her office PC on a daily basis. Previously, up until last week, I had them connecting via AnyDesk. This was starting to have issues and would be super laggy and would disconnect occasionally. So, I installed Screen Connect as a test and installed an agent on the Home PC. Then from the office PC, I would connect to the home PC. This worked well during my 15 minute test session when I installed it.
However, They are telling me now that many times a day, they attempt to connect to the home PC running the agent and just get the message "Waiting for your guest." Does anyone else get this with screenconnect agents?
Is there a better alternative for basic, remote access? (preferably free)

ZeroTier, preferably restricted to RDP only, on both devices and use RDP.

This means the home computer is sleeping. You need to set the home computer to never sleep - you'll have the same issue with JB's awesome solution.

ZeroTier is a pretty cool solution, but the OP problem with AnyDesk could also be related to power-management settings having changed (a week ago... Windows update induced problems anyone?).
Knowing how users tend to be, if you can make their original solution work how it used to with some power management tweaks (don't forget the options directly on the NIC) you'll be a $DietyOfChoice. Just some food for thought.

@Dashrender @notverypunny Good idea. I already changed the power settings on the home computer months ago, but if a recent Windows update changed them, I'll check that out too. Randomly change settings I specifically set...thanks Windows.

@fuznutz04 Yeah unfortunately windows updates will reset settings to their liking occasionally. I believe you can script the settings to your liking and run it as a scheduled task to make sure it stays the same.

@fuznutz04 : Keep an eye out for the "hidden" hibernate that doesn't show up under "Plan settings" (only sleep and display). I've seen multiple systems that have "Hibernate after" configured under "Sleep" in the advanced settings as default.

There's also the problem where some systems become broken and once a system goes to sleep, it will continue going to sleep no matter what after something like 2 mins of non use. Rebooting fixes it, until it goes to sleep again... there is a fix somewhere in these threads too, reg fix.

Hahah, yeah. I was part of that thread too having been bit by it myself. Thankfully I haven't seen that behaviour in over a year.
