Why don't we just make all applications in Machine code while were at it. Who needs to deal with the OS or frameworks. Just manage it all.

That's the way nature intended, and enough already with this damn Internet fad, BBSes had a real sense of community, so let's turn off the Internet and go back to what truly matters... and 16bit.

    • RE: What Is This Ad About?

I saw this ad on Spiceworks, I was clicking between pages and thought "wtf? was that Kim Jong-Un?" so I had to go back and unfocus/refocus the window to reload the ad about 30 times before it recycled.

My thoughts then and still are "Is this ad saying that Kim Jong-Un uses this product and that means you should too? Or is it saying even he can't get into it?"

I posted about this on Spiceworks too, and the response I got was "I thought the ad was pretty clear. He stole data, this company is saying they can protect you from him." However that doesn't seem that clear to me, perhaps if he were trying to pry into with a screw driver it'd send that message, but he that's not what this really communications.

Lest we forget North Korean seriously talented hackers, haha, yeah okay....

This is all well and good, but surely we're going to bring back gopher right? I mean, I see all those people on SW talking about how web based apps are sort of a fad and people will want to go back to using clunky ass installers requiring libraries and also keeping all that up to date. So surely, maybe HTTP/2.0 is almost here, but the real hardcore, super serious users will want to use gopher, right? I mean it will offer "more control" over something or something.

You did? I don't see the response, unless I'm just not recognizing your handle over there.

Then you didn't read the content of them.

I did. But he's Tony over here and Antal? over there...I think.

Why would anyone buy this? And how many charge backs do they plan on having to dispute over this?

I can't imagine that they would charge for this game, it probably going to be free. Hopefully. lol

Or it could be a subcription, you pay as long as you're alive.

One thing that makes games addictive is the ability to keep going, I don't see many people recommending it to friends either if it's "it was fun, but then I died, so I went back to WoW"

Also of developers like https://trello.com/ I can't stand it though.

In larger projects kanban boards can be great for overview of where larger parts are, breaking it down and using it for smaller tasks is really painful.

@sreekumarpg There is allways the good old Spiceworks Helpdesk. Not open source, but "free" by way of adds.

That's actually a very good one. Make a ticket for everything, and assign to the person handling the issue. It's easy to get a view of the open tasks per team member that way.

There's issue trackers for that, they're much better at that kind of thing, and even then, project planning and task management works better when you can set things hierarchically, which you can't do with tickets or issues.

What are they taking DNA tests for sign ups? What about identical twins?!

Plus games with no 1ups have existed in the past, forcing users to restart from the beginning, and people seriously hate that so now we're saying you can't start over either, I'm betting this probably will just be irritating.

And the results are.... completely as expected. No surprises in any way. LOL I don't know what I was expecting. We've researched our family heritage so thoroughly we know where half of the family traces back to at 1200 AD. It would have been weird if the results had something shocking in them.

I did this a couple of years ago on 23andme, so I also got the health results, but my wife did hers a couple of months later right after the FDA made them stop so she never got hers. Anyway, I didn't really have any surprises either, roughly 50% "Broadly Southern European" (mostly Serbian and Hungarian names) and 23% "Finnish" and the rest was broadly northern European. Fits what I already knew, so I guess my mother really wasn't sleeping with the milkman like she said.

On my Windows, I can't set GMT as a timezone. The only options are UTC plus or minus n hours. Regardless, it has to be a fudge, since we're operating in two different times zones (GMT & BST) and Windows only allows you to set one (plus a tick box for Daylight Saving Time).

That's bizarre. I can set (and have) GMT on my Windows. And on my Linux.

GMT is used interchangeably with UTC a lot, as evident even on this thread. However the main issue with GMT was the lack of leap seconds so it was slowly falling behind UTC, but not any more since they're now in some goofy balance I think.

UTC. Coordinated Universal Time. Acronym is French, hence why the letters do not line up with the English term.

      Not so fast sailor:

Just the french and english versions of the same thing, temps universel coordonné and coordinated universal time

It's neither french nor english, it's a sort of backronym as halfway point between the two. Why the hell would anyone bother to do that is beyond me.

Short version: double summer time is another layer of stupid on top of something already so moronic it defies logic and reason. UTC is the compromise between the french TUC and the english CUT, it's the universal global time, which sometimes lines up with GMT, but not always.
