Does anyone know if I pay for a higher level of support, will I get better support? Maybe talk to someone in the United States?

Alternatively, work with a VMWare partner. Sometimes the best support does not come from the vendor directly.

^^ This. Best Nexenta support I've ever seen was from their German technical sales team. We call that "kurzer Dienstweg" -> roughly "Short route through official channels / ways".

    • RE: Avast... free Antivirus?? (sells your info for millions)

A bit OC, but... You won't believe what people sell - and what others actually buy. For example:

      • Fibre cables with "gold contacts" -> https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/875f5k/optical_cables_with_gold_plated_connectors/
      • RCA cable made from "old Japanese overland phone lines" wrapped in silk paper for just a few thousand dollars per meter (can't find the link ATM)
      • On guy is offering a "cable ionization service" for better sound results via eBay where I live. Approx. 50-100 EUR per cable.

    • RE: What Do You Use? - Send/Receive Large Files, Securely

      We're using a self-written one-time uploader.

Step 1: User or customer is using a form on a HTTPS protected site to

      1. Enter his mail address
      2. The recipients address (restricted to our team) and
      3. Upload a file

Step 2: Recipient gets a mail with a one-time link
Step 3: Within 7 days the recipient can download the file exactly one time. It will be deleted as soon as the last byte has been sent.
Step 4 (optional): In case the file wasn't downloaded within 7 days, it will be deleted by the system. Sender and recipient will get a notification

Wasn't written by me, but should not be too complicated.

Sadly, no. You can unwatch to keep them from alerting, but you can't make them not show up in Unread.

      Alrighty, thanks.

Would be a good feature request for the NodeBB guys. There are threads that I'd like to not see as well from time to time. Just things that have a lot of discussion that I'm not a part of or whatever and they pop up constantly.

I think that the theory is that the alerts notification is meant to do what we want there, but in reality it is useless for that leaving a gap between truly unread items and "unread things that we care about."

That's a very important feature in case ML is getting bigger. It should default to no alerting at all but let you subscribe to some threads. Exactly like SW. Everything else is a notification overkill.

@thwr I enjoy German, should spend some time to learn it (more than swearing). Good solid chunky language and you can combine words together in delightful way.

Reminds me of physics professors naming things. Blackhole -> hole that is black.

Yepp, but quite hard. It's said to be one of the hardest languages at all, only topped by Chinese, Japanese and other Asian and some African languages.

Try to read a bit about Genitiv and Dativ. We got a learning boardgame here, titled "Der Genitiv ist dem Dativ sein Tod". PITA even for some native speakers.

    • RE: H61MXP Board Issue

You should include vendor names. The H61MXP seems to be a Foxconn/Digilite board.

      Need to guess a bit:

      1. The machine is getting past BIOS (UEFI?) POST?
      2. Storage detected?
      3. BIOS/UEFI configured to boot from storage?

In case of 1+2+3, this would point to a problem with the bootloader of the OS as the next possible error source.

Noticed that too. Probably a "fast forward" function? Seems to happen mostly when you scroll fast.

I'm usually on fast lines (4G/LTE, 100 MBit, 1GbE, 10GbE), so I can't say much about the behavior on slow lines.

I should have said "to master" and not "to learn" earlier. Learning the basics of a language seems to be quite easy in most cases. Mastering on the other hand is a whole different story.

Few things compare to English, then. The rules are complex and deep and the vocabulary is enormous.

And that was my point about the German language. It's easy enough to learn the (very) basics, but we got language constructs the English language doesn't have, like the accusative case.

The only digital downloads I aware of are the VLSC licenses.

Otherwise the trial download might let you enter a real key and activate. I'm pretty sure it will. You would want to stand up a trial and then be force to scrap it if you decides to keep it, bit I suppose stranger things have happened.

Eval can be activated, even with MAK keys (and at any time you wish)

Eval can be converted to accept VL keys. It will not activate on one natively.

Edit: I thought I posted here when I did it, but i cannot find it

Maybe I'm missing something, but I had no issues using VL keys on "vanilla" eval installations since Win7/2008R2.

The GUI won't accept the key. You have to use DISM to set the product edition since eval is not a regular one. And the you can use DISM to activate the key.

Yeah, sorry, thought this is obvious. So yes, you are right, the edition is more or less "eval" instead of standard, enterprise or datacenter and dism can fix that.

But the basic question was: Can you activate an eval, and the simple answer is yes.

$150K, for a junior, in Romania? Are you kidding? Even Manhattan doesn't pay that for a junior position. Remember you can buy a farm here for $16K.

That's the point. Living costs are peanuts compared to Germany, UK, US etc. And Salary is virtually always proportional to living costs.

Every ESL speaker I know tells me that English is stupid damned hard as a second language

It is. I do speak German, English, French, a little Spanish and a very little Dutch and Danish. People tend to say English is easy, but it isn't. Weird sentence structure, weird time forms (-> didn't take vs. didn't took for example).

I didn't know this, does that make it obvious or not, who knows..... but again, I didn't know you could use DISM to change that.

Although, if you have a legal MAK/KMS key, why are you using an eval? You should have access to VLSC and just download the ISO you need.

Only a single guy in our campus datacenter is allowed to access MSVLSC and it's often way easier to use evals.

I would start by looking for "mysql mssql sync" on Google, as MariaDB is "just" a fork of MySQL.

      This could help:
      http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1951174/sync-between-sql-server-and-mysql-server

You can setup a linked server in MSSQL pointing at the MariaDB and then run a scheduled stored proc that imports your data.

That's what the SO post said
