I know this is common sense but this was the end of the "cheat sheet" for documentation I was given. I thought it was great that they added this. Just thought I'd share. What's the best example of documentation you've ever seen, either due to its readability, technical detail, etc?

Made an offer to my GM tonight. He straight up asked me to take the full-time ET Expert job. I told him he can't afford me. However, I told him to give me $17/hour and the sales manager job and I'd do it. He'd have to fire the current SM and get district manager approval, but who knows?

Another good example of good information a lot of people should know but don't always.

Our lab is officially moving to a Colocation America Data Center in Los Angeles California. @art_of_shred and I will be leaving the Western NY office on Sunday May 15th and working in North Carolina Monday-Tuesday then heading out on an epic road trip from Salisbury, NC to Los Angeles, CA. Keep an eye out for pics all along Route 66.

And you didn't invite me to go with you?!

On 13 hours one way car trip was enough....

I've gotten better since then, I promise! That was my first trip like that! ROFL I'm a seasoned vet now.

Remember, in two months I covered the eastern seaboard, went to the west coast, back to the east coast, and back to NY. All in two months....lol

Can't do ergonomic ones. That's why I like the Wave by Logitech, aka K350. A curve but no divide.

Nice documentation, but any tech with more than a week experience already knows those things 😛

      You would be surprised sadly...

Then they are probably in the wrong industry

I find one of the biggest issues in IT nowadays, although the same can be said of pretty much any industry, is that there are a lot of people who know just enough to be dangerous, but too few who actually can do good work beyond a helpdesk/L0/retail level.

My father decided I would be a musician (he had no musical ability at all). I was also not talking at the age of 4 (I signed but I didn't speak). So my parents started me with voice lessons and flute lessons at 4 years old. First thing I ever sang? Oh Holy Night. That to this day is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Now, I tend to be more of a metal head (old school not the new crud). But as most people who know me well know I will listen to lots of different stuff. Example my play list this morning for working out: Led Zepplin, Iron Madien, Metallica, Les Mis sound track, Petra, Miranda Lambert.

Music is always playing in my house. Never quiet here.

I'm sure it helps drown out the doggies too...LOL

All of the above examples seem like reasons to get fired at most places I've heard of.

      ...

      In what way?

It was mostly sarcasm, but the thinking part has me concerned. I know adults who don't have shoe laces because they don't know how / can't learn to tie them.

      That's sad...

Not really they sing along sometimes. Seriously they sing.

I believe it. My current landlord has a dog that "speaks" in his own way to you. It's a series of moans, grunts, and gruffs.

I wear flipflops orZems to work almost everyday. I can tie my shoes, I just see it as a negative impact on my time and productivity... 😛

I usually lace my shoes in a way that I can just slip them on but they won't just fall off. It's nice.

MediaWiki, Sharepoint's Wiki, OneNote are all decent tools for this.

OneNote on Office365 was what we used at NTG and it was great. Different folders for different clients, with credentials for the systems, network info, IP addresses, etc. Until I worked there, I thought OneNote was stupid. Overall, I still do, but I also have seen that it can be extremely useful in many ways.

    • RE: Learning Linux

Debian-based Ubuntu is more common to find in households and even some small businesses. A company I worked for built their entire proprietary product for monitoring Cisco equipment on Ubuntu. However, RPM builds like CentOS are what enterprises use, and would probably serve you better long-run. It's good to know both, and there are plenty of similarities, but there are also a ton of differences.
