Do you have to add the voip ms server as a trusted network? My Vultr instance lost it's registration today to voip.ms. I added chicago2.voip.ms to the firewall as an excluded network and it reconnected.

No, you should not have to make a firewall exception for it. In the advanced pjsip settings for your trunk, is the expiration the default 3600? If so, change to 120 and see if that helps.

It is set to 120 already. Just seemed odd that if it disconnected it did not reconnect. Thought maybe had something to do with the firewall. Before I added chicago2.voip.ms I checked the status in freepbx and it said rejected I believe.

    • RE: Free VM Backup

I looked a little closer and you get all the features free for 3 vms. After 3 the main items like cbt and application aware backups require a license.

"The user can choose between unlimited features – limited VMs (upto 3 VMs) or limited features – unlimited VMs."

Have you looked at Vembu Free yet? I just glanced at the free vs paid comparison and it may tick all the boxes.

Scott Moulton from myhardrivedied.com has a lot of awesome free hard drive recovery videos. I think some of the free software he recommends are mhdd, Victoria, and ftk imager. Do a quick search on YouTube.

You can check the spam score of these messages. It is possible they are getting marked with a score just below your threshold for rejection/deletion.
I know when we used O365 i had to set the threshold to 4 to get this nonsense to stop.

I'll look at the scores and see what they are posting. I almost feel like I should just put an alternative spam filter in front of our account. Something that actually checks the links in the body of the email.

Have you looked at the headers and made sure that the domain isn't being spoofed?

Definitely not being spoofed per the info in the header. The domains that are sending the spam also have SPF setup with O365 so that would also lead me to believe they are actually being sent from the real O365 account.

      @nerdydad - It's always a different domain.

I know at the end of the day the answer is user education. I was interested to see if anyone else noticed this trend since I know a lot of people here are using O365 for email.

@nerdydad - I agree with adjusting the spam settings. The only issue is that it appears that all O365 accounts come through as clean email regardless of the content.

So really nothing can be done. Microsoft assumes that any email sent from an O365 account to another O365 account is always non-spam.

    • Office365 spam

Do any of you guys/gals using Office365 for email receive a lot of fake Office365 account related emails? I have noticed that since moving to Office365 we receive a ton of fake cancellation notices or account related emails. The one thing that all these scams have in common is that the sender/reply-to address is from a domain that is also using Office365 for email. I assume what is happening is the domain sending the emails is someone who fell for the scam and now their email account is being used to send spam to other Office365 accounts because they are unlikely to be marked as spam.

The issue seems to have been resolved. No packet drops on MTR this time around.

    • RE: Intermittent call quality issues with a FreePBX instance on Vultr in Chicago

So I submitted a ticket with Vultr and they moved me to a new server to see if that would make any difference. The call quality is a little better but there is still a little static/pop every couple of seconds. They had me send MTR results to them. I pointed out that there is some packet loss happening on the last hop but they said everything looks good. Below are my results. I removed the first few lines.

I have a client on the same setup with Vultr (Chicago) and Voip.ms (chicago2.voip.ms). They were having the same issue on Friday with calls dropping in and out. This morning I am still getting a couple complaints but not as bad as Friday.

@g-i-jones - Maybe try adding Authenticated Users to your Security Filtering just to test. I am not 100% sure but I don't think Security Filtering can be left blank??? Also, if you end up entering a security group other than Authenticated Users for Security Filtering, you need to add Authenticated Users to Delegation with Read rights.

I guess another question is storing recorded calls on Vultr HIPAA compliant? I originally started off wanting to do this on Vultr but the more I think about it I keep talking myself into self hosting for security purposes.

If I were to setup FreePBX and wanted to maintain call recordings would you guys still recommend Vultr or am I better to self host? I know the $5 and $10 instances do not offer a lot of storage. Can storage be added to these?

      Thanks

This completely depends on how many recordings you think you need to keep.
25GB is a lot of voice recordings.

If I go with the $10 (40GB) I would be set then. I guess I am uncertain as to how much space the recordings actually take up. That plus does FreePBX auto purge call recordings or do I need the paid module to auto archive and delete?
