@scottalanmiller, which service did you go with after dropping MailGun? We are looking at a relay service and have MailGun on our list. This is a bit concerning that they shut you down like that. We're also looking at Postmark and SendGrid.

RE: Obtaining hardware from terminated remote employee
We have our employees (office-based and home-based) sign a company equipment agreement upon their hire. It states along the lines that they agree to care for all company equipment they are issued and return in proper working condition upon termination of employment. Failure to do so will be considered theft and lead to criminal prosecution. On the employee's last day they are informed that any vacation accrual they have will be held for payout until the equipment is returned. This usually does the trick for us. I've only had to threaten police action with a former employee once before the laptop magically showed up a couple of days later.

RE: 3rd party spam filter solution pricing
We have been using SpamTitan and their hosted appliance for several years with our on-prem Exchange. Pricing is $1/u/month. Been happy with it.

RE: Most of my Windows 10 1803 computers upgraded to 1809 despite it not being approved in WSUS / Dual Scan is a thing
This is what I have to prevent my clients from communicating to Microsoft Update servers:

RE: Docking Station Recommendations for Dell Latitude 7490
We have both the Dell USB-C docks and a couple of the Thunderbolt models. So far we have had no problem with the USB-C. I even use one for my machine. The Thunderbolts were a bit problematic around the first part of 2017, but after several firmware updates they seem to have stabilized.

RE: Concur for Expense Reporting - Experiences and/or Suggested Alternatives?
For the past 1.5 years we have been using Concur. We were in the same situation as you prior to that with a spreadsheet template. As far as I know there have been no issues. Just a few things when it was first setup. Our CFO and controller love being on Concur now. They are able to "poke" managers when expense reports have been sitting out there without approval.

RE: Mobile Device Management
I have but in cases of immediate termination we already have their accounts disabled so don't think the phone and our server are able to communicate with each other. Plus if they are backing up their phones then they can restore from the previous backup and be right back to where they were.

RE: Mobile Device Management
Not at the moment but we are looking very heavily at transitioning in the next few months. This is just for the Click-to-Run Office. We're leaving Exchange on-prem.

Mobile Device Management
I am looking for recommendations on an MDM solution. I have given Cisco Meraki a trial run but hated it. The VMware account exec for my area isn't interested in my business for AirWatch. I've looked a bit into Microsoft's InTune and Maas360.
Our goal is to be able to wipe or containerize any of our data/apps from the employees' BYOD. Our company does not supply cell phones or tablets. If a user wants to sync their iPhone with our Exchange then they will sign a policy understanding that we will be monitoring and consent to us removing info upon their departure.
What have you all used that you like and recommend. Thanks!

RE: Is the CompTIA A+ Certification Right for IT? SAMIT Video
@scottalanmiller I believe this is the first time that I have commented on one of your posts. Love reading them. I do have to ask, what are you considering IT? I have been in the IT industry for nearly 20 years for several employers, very large and small. On the tech side of the IT department we have always had support techs doing "bench" work.
The IT team is responsible for moving information, allowing users to interact with information, etc. PCs, servers, even printers/copiers are all vehicles for that information processing. Someone has to fix those broken vehicles, and it's always been my experience that it is a member of the IT team who can break a machine apart and put it back together in working order. No employer that I have worked for has taken a dead PC to Best Buy or called in Joe's PC Fix.
In 2000 I took the A+ and passed. Did it help? Maybe as I have stayed on the tech/operations side of IT my whole career. I don't require it for my new hires and about agree with you that it is almost pointless. I do think it gives folks a building block of knowledge of how computers work as soon as you press the power button for troubleshooting steps (something almost lost in today's younger generation). If I see it on a resume I may set it in my "Take a second look" pile.

RE: Prompt before sending external emails
I have been tasked with finding this same solution. We have been running a proof of concept trial on SafeSend (https://www.safesendsoftware.com). It is essentially an Outlook plug-in. For all external e-mail it prompts the sender to verify the intended recipients. There is also an option to turn on to verify any attachments as well. The price quoted is a little more than I would want to pay for a plug-in, but considering we had 3 instances last year of sensitive e-mail sent to incorrect recipients we think it's worth it.

RE: Exchange 2010 Hard Drive Space Issues
Windows Backup should be able to truncate the Exchange logs.

RE: Exchange 2010 Hard Drive Space Issues
If a large number of logs are the problem then you can manually delete them if the database is clean.
- Dismount the database
- Run the command eseutil /MH "<databasename>.edb"
- If the state shows the database as Clean Shutdown you are good to delete the log files.
Feel free to hit me up if you need any help on this.

RE: Exchange 2010 Hard Drive Space Issues
Just open Windows Explorer and look at your log directory. If you are not using an Exchange aware backup program then your logs are not getting purged.
