I agree with @MattSpeller you should consider getting someone with good Netscout equipment to do this. Someone that already owns the gear for testing and the gear for labeling and can do this quickly and "easily."

Zorin will also run on systems that I can't get Mint, Fedora, or Ubuntu to run on. It's surprising how few resources it needs to run well.

Interesting. It's Ubuntu under the hood.

It always has been.... where have you been buddy?

No he's saying that since it's Ubuntu under the hood it Ubuntu should work most anywhere Zorin does.

Except that Ubuntu is far more system intensive (and god ugly to look at)

If it is Ubuntu under the hood, it can't be Ubuntu that is so intensive.

Eliminating the bloat isn't bad. But that's probably not the goal.

I've been looking at Odoo from time to time. It seems like an interesting package and one of these days I might get around to actually getting it installed and testing it out. Thanks for the link, just what I need to get started.

So, congratulations here's $60k of gear, let us know when you've spent $30k to upgrade your electrical, UPS and we'll come film you

And then buy a bunch of support gear (from us) so that it works.

You COULD make your own web reporting with it, as it is open. But that would be more of a pain. But certainly an option.

@StrongBad Yep, I've put those in at numerous businesses, and they work great with remote PBXs. Actually, I haven't found anything that they are NOT good at yet for SMBs.

They've always worked great for me, too.

Brought back the 2 non-working phones to my office, plugged them in, watched the Asterisk console, and haven't had a single "unregister" in an hour. Looks like that Comcast modem/router just sucks. Time for an ERL.

If you end up with an ERL out of it, that's a huge win 🙂

What did you end up recommending?

I'm still leaning Invoice Ninja...still configuring it to be as close to our paper tickets as we can get it... 🙂

Didn't you have to submit the proposal already?

They have backed off a little especially since I've been needed every which way but loose on "Gremlin" issues yesterday and today...

It's nice when they give you some extra time - Gremlins are pain,..but the best ones are the internet issues like Level3 and TWC... Pass the buck,.. take a break... (yea,.. that THAT happens)

Invoice Ninja is off the radar...they wanted a little more robust reporting, or at least a neater "dump" that what it does...continuing my research.

What about dumping into Excel and making your own reports?

@dafyre said in Replacing the Dead IPOD, SAN Bit the Dust:

Typical recommendations I've seen are for there to be a management VLAN, and a separate VLAN for the actual storage traffic... But as you say, when hackers get in, you have bigger problems anyhow.

Storage should always be a true physical SAN, not a VLAN SAN. VLAN is fine for security, but you want a physically separate SAN to make sure that the backplane does not get overloaded. It's performance and reliability why you keep the SAN separate physically.

@dafyre said in No Longer Salaried.:

Apparently, nothing is changing for us here. I think we all got a little salary bump to simply not have to deal with it. I'm like $3 over the limit, lol.

They say even under the old requirements only software developers are suppose to be salaried not Network administrators based on this PDF: https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime/fs17e_computer.pdf

We exceed the pay requirements by a long shot the new one is only $47k. legal just says Technically Network and systems administrators don't fall under that description. Software developers do and possibly desktop technicians.

That would be an odd decision since it doesn't regulate salaried versus hourly, only exempt versus non-exempt. So going hourly will cost them money unless the people are under the limit for exemption. The only advantage to the company happens if you are making more than the one upper exemption limit but below the other.
