    • US Police Departments Distributing Malware

It has come out in the news that police departments in the US have been involved with promoting and even purchasing and distributing malware that installs a keylogger and steals data from users. Unbelievable. The people who are supposed to be protecting the citizens are the very ones involved in stealing their data. There should be severe penalties for this sort of thing.

That little bit of edgy-ness keeps me sharp.

Honestly, that's why I stuck around and spend much more time here than elsewhere now. IE The Spiceworks Community forums isn't getting me a good slap upside the head when I do something stupid.

It's a bit more aggressive here, I think, but in a more professional way. Like a continuous technical roundtable. Everyone is on the same page. Spice Comm has a lot of people that are pretty surprised when someone proposes a different idea or points out a problem.

Talking to support at Weave, the supposed phone vendor today, and their "technical support" asked us the difference between switch ports, and wall ports, and tried to claim that they have customers that don't need switches! Um... who do you think you are fooling buddy?

    • RE: Re- Training

I've heard it called Values, Attributes and Skills. Skills are easy to teach and matter, but very little. They matter a lot in short term consultants, not in employees you hope to keep. Even if they have the skills that you want they will soon be outdated.

Attributes or Aptitude (similar ways to look at the "A") are not easy to change but can be changed with effort over time. Finding someone with the "A"s that you need is important or at least getting someone who is close. Anyone with the right "A" will be able to acquire the skills necessary quite easily and will be able to keep doing so as the needed skills change over time.

But the most important aspect is Values and these, effectively, cannot change. Finding someone whose values match those of your organization is of the utmost importance. Without these you will have fundamental conflicts and incompatibilities that will make the relationship untenable.

This is what I am looking at for replacement ink

$35.99 for 2 sets of ink (2 black, 2 magenta, 2 cyan, and 2 yellow)

      http://www.amazon.com/Valuetoner-Remanufactured-Replacement-Generation-Compatible/dp/B00RVXFB62/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

Do yourself and your printer a favor...don't...

      Why?

If I am paying $100 for one set of ink from HP or $35 for two sets of 3rd party ink. I could save $165 on just two ink changes which is more than the cost of the printer. Most reviews on the ink were positive (4 star rating). Some of the negative reviewers installed the ink incorrectly or some gave a negative review just because the printer couldn't read the ink levels as accurately as before.

The panic around using third party ink is often based on the mistaken assumption that the printers are worth tens of thousands of dollars when, in fact, they are essentially disposable. Third party ink is not "quite" as reliable as OEM ink but it is often so much cheaper than even if every other cartridge destroyed your printer (they do not, that's FUD) it would be break even. In reality, one in fifty or one in one hundred causes damage and, on average, that makes third party ink nearly always the far better option.
