    • Need help with powershell

I am looking for a way to write a powershell script that will return result for all folder that contain users or groups that are not inherited. I tried to run the script for non-inherited folder, but some folder are inherited...while have users/groups that were added later on without disabling the inheritance of the folder.

This is the script I found:
      DIR "\path\abc" -directory -recurse | GET-ACL | where {$_.Access.IsInherited -eq $false}|Select-Object PSPATH |Export-Csv "c:\export.csv" -NoTypeInformation

Problem with this script is it read the folder inheritance, and not the users/groups. What is the powershell cmdlet to target users/groups without inheritance?

Below is an example of the folder in question.

The computer is old. The owner is not very tech savy, nor has cash to spend. I'm trying to help her save as much money as possible. Right now it's running, but the grinding noise is very annoying.

I found a guide on instructables which gives me the idea of replacing just the fan.

What's your thought on replacing power supply fan? The computer in question is Dell Vostro... 6+ years old. It's not worth the money to buy a new power supply for this machine at this point. Have anyone replace a fan in a power supply before?

Why is your admin station still Windows 7? You can upgrade for free.
Once you upgrade, you'll have the latest version of PowerShell and you won't have these types of issues of compatibility.

We planned for Q2 next year. We just moved into new office space, so we don't want to introduce too much changes.

I am trying to create a simple script that retrieve ipphone extension from ADUser properties on Windows 7, then add the extension to XML file, but I am not sure where to start.

I can get the ipphone extension if I run the command on the DC server, but I need to run it on Windows 7. Any idea?

EDIT: My goal is to retrieve the extension in ipphone attribute, then use the extension found to insert into xml file.

What version is your DC running on?
2012R2 requires Windows 8.1 with RSAT or greater.

If the Windows 7 machine in question is joined to the domain, just install RSAT and tell it you want the PowerShell modules for AD. Then you you can use the AD commands in powershell.

So to use get-aduser I have to install RSAT on all machines, then enable AD module for PS, then import them through PS?

@stess said in MMS to nonsupported phone/number... will you get a notification that it was not delivered?:

Let me rephrase my question.... is SMS/MMS similar to postal mail? Basically, you only know when you send the mail... but whether the mail got lost or not you never know... or is there any mechanism behind SMS/MMS that act similar to confirmation page for faxes?

Don't believe that there is anything like that.

Thanks Scott. I call BS on my manager claim. 😠

    • MMS to nonsupported phone/number... will you get a notification that it was not delivered?

If you send a picture to a phone number which is not a smart phone, will you get a notification that the picture is not delivered?

We use a texting service to communicate with our client. Problem is that we do not get notification when they send pictures, nor they get notification that the pictures were not sent. Is there such notifications to begin with?

What I am trying to ask is... do smartphone get alerts if you send MMS/picture to a non-supported phone number? I tried sending it to my landline, and I did not receive any notification that the picture did not go through. Anyone still got an old relic they can test for me? My manager argue that if the picture did not go through the sender will get a notification.

    • RE: Samsung Galaxy S3... recovery w/ broken screen

So... here's an update. I called my local shops to get some pricing for this service... but most of them asking for $60+tax or more. The cheapest I got is $45 an hour for a somewhat shady craiglist post.

My thought right now is to get a new S3 from Newegg, do a mobo swap to get the pictures out, then return the device in its original(ish) condition. What are your recommendation?

I popped the broken phone opens, and I do not see any warranty sticker anywhere.... anyone has any experience on this?

A local repair shop offered to connect a working display to a phone long enough to pull off the data from a phone for like $30. Tell your friend to pony up and do something like that.

I will call couple local shops near my home. =3

Attach it to a computer with the USB cable, the storage should appear as a folder (this works on Windows, not sure about any other OS). Or if the pics are on a micro SD card, just remove that and stick it into a card reader attached to a computer.

There is not micro SD card. PC won't recognize the phone... probably has to unlock it first, but it is hard to do so when the screen itself is not working.

    • Samsung Galaxy S3... recovery w/ broken screen

I have an old Samsung Galaxy S3 from my friend who asked me to recover the pictures on the phone. The screen is shattered... "shattered" The phone does turn on and charging, but I cannot see anything on the screen at all. Is there some tools I can use to get around the broken screen?

I'm doing this at no charge so replacing the screen is not an option (tweaking is an option as long as it costs no additional $$$). Any suggestion?

    • What is the best way to get reloaded Windows 7 up to date?

Without relying on WSUS or Windows Updates... what can I do to speed up the updates?

When I have to reload a machine often time I will have to sit in front of "updating Windows.... xx of xx ....." and it can takes HOURS. I am looking for a way to speed it up.

I found KB3125574 which supposed to be convenience rollup update until April of 2016. I am look for 2017 version of this rollup. Any idea?

I also found this Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 update history which supposed to be all the update ever since the rollup... but that's a lot of downloads to go through. Is there another rollup for 2017? If not, do I need to install these updates one at a time in monthly order?

      Any suggestion?

Likely victims of "I'll just let a salesman do my job and get paid to not know what I'm doing" syndrome.

At my work right now... we just implemented a SAN device which supposed to store our Files servers.... Even if there are multiple drives, and Raid 10, there is only one SAN. I was aggressively oppose this idea, but it was approved by my manger anyhow. Can't wait for it to fail. * grab popcorn *

Samsung 850 Pro 1TB is $469. That's a bit cost prohibitive for this application.

I'm looking for a 1 or 2TB standard drive with as much performance as I can get.

      Probably a Seagate Firecuda then.

What's the use for it? I would invest more $$$ for performance. 850 Evo 1TB is about $340 atm. Does it has to be 3.5mm?
I have 4x 1tb WD Blue in Raid 5 setup in my secondary computer. Not the best, but it is cheap. I use it for storing movies and such. Still SSD is a lot better.
