Is there a way for me to verify this secondary domain is functioning as intended?
Try binding to it.
I worded this wrong. Sorry.
This is a secondary DC. I didn't think you could specify the domain controller, it's just round robin. How do I verify that it's working.
Second DC, not secondary. Haven't been secondary DCs ever in Active Directory. That terminology is mistakenly brought over from the PDC/BDC days of Windows NT and the SAM system that pre-dates AD. Once AD replaced SAM, there was no more secondary concepts.
Quoted for truth. Glad you pointed this out. That terminology needs to die so no one gets confused.

Firewall Options
Got an old ASA 5510 that works fine, but needs a firmware update. The reason we need to be updated is for it to work for Azure, which will hold our data (1DC, 1 fileserver...easy beans). In order to get this update, you have to be on a Smartnet contract. I'm wondering if this isn't the best way to spend the $$$. We are talking a few servers and a VOIP phone system onsite.re
Any ideas? Would you keep what is working and go with Smartnet, or ditch it and get a cheaper firewall?

The biggest news in this corner of the world is that the FALCONS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!
(I don't follow sports very closely, but you gotta be happy when your traditionally mediocre home team goes all the way).
Birds are playing a sport now?
Yes, they are. And apparently, they are sportsing harder and playing sportsball better than most of the other teams.
Who are the Falcons sportsing against in the Super Bowl?
My Patriots!! Hoping Brady gets his 5th ring.
Come on, y'all should let us have just one.... Atlanta sports teams never win anything.
Any other year when the Pats are not in it. This one is important in a lot of ways.
P.S. Matty Heisman is awesome and we like him up here. BC alumn.

Is either company hiring janitorial staff? Actively looking
You'd prefer to be a janitor? How messed up is your job?
Short answer: IT isn't for me anymore. Not exactly specific to my current job
Not to hijack but if I wasn't doing IT I would totally go back to being a forklift operator. Working for the Miller Brewing Company was some of the best years of my life.

Went to the gun store last night to pick up a holster and more bullets and saw this. An Uzi is on my wish list, but this baby just moved up to the top notch!!
Want to get the .22 version...cheaper price, cheaper rounds, nice and fun!!

And yet just this morning that had a segment to show downtime, specifically vacations, are important to productivity.
I don't think there is a special elixir...just how you work is the best way to work.

Charges while driving? Fuel discrimination? I do not support any of that!!
What fuel discrimination?
Sorry, I didn't add the word "based". From the article:
Fuel-based discrimination. Diesel engines are high-torque, hardworking, and fuel efficient — but soon you’re going to keep ‘em down on the farm, and they’ll never see Paree. The French capital, along with Mexico City, Madrid, and Athens, plans to ban diesel vehicles through major sections of the city to cut down on air pollution by 2025, and cities all over the world will likely follow soot (pun intended). Taking things one step further, Oslo and Bergen — Norway’s two largest cities — plan to set up zero-emission zones by the same date, cordoning off sections of the city where gasoline engines are similarly exiled. So while you may still be fighting with double-parked delivery vehicles as you navigate downtown, expect them to be smaller, cleaner, and much, much quieter.

Why can't it be legal to throat punch a co-worker?
Office has been closed for 2 1/2 days due to the snow we've been getting. Guy's "N" key on his keyboard only works sometimes. He yelled at me...in the middle of the blizzard yesterday demanding I fix it. I was in on Tuesday for that half day...he wasn't. I guess he expected the keyboard fairy to fly to his house and fix it for him.
The part that REALLY pissed me off? On Wednesday when I was on the phone with him I said quote " You can go to the nearest store and pick up a USB keyboard for now. I hesitate to say that because I don't want you to go out and get hurt in the process". This dick then said "I'm a grownup....I can handle the roads!!!". Fine, then handle the f[moderated] roads and stop yelling at me wanting your pound of flesh.
He is the 1 guy I hate here.

Another great 1 liner from this guy: "I don't understand why this is so difficult??!!" Well, you've been in the office for 3 hours since Monday. Yeah, I would say it's pretty difficult to fix something when you're not here. Never mind the fact that over 20" of snow had fallen the past 3 days.
No work on Monday, now this dude is sick and I had to reschedule the keyboard replacement until Thursday. Bet he'll use THAT against me too.

Why have a title of IT Manager or Director of IT and not have the power to sign something that will cost us $293.28?

I'll have to look.
Some of the more crazy knockouts I like seeing are the body shot ones. Roy Jones Jr. knocked out Virgil Hill with one I'll never forget.

Back in the hunt for a job. I applied for one and they sent me one of those "self-assessment" exams...yuck!!! I hate puzzles! LOL
Did get an e-mail from the CEO wanting a phone interview. We'll see how that goes.

Job interviews always suck. They can be nerve wracking at times. Hopefully I did well in the one this morning.
They can be good for you, too. Often good learning experiences.
This is true. You try to give them some of what they want to hear without TRYING to sound like you're giving them something they want to hear LOL
It's hard because you try to give them a more complete picture of who you are and what you offer. Most of their questions don't allow you to do this unfortunately.
That's true! There were things I wanted to say but never got to because of how the conversation went.
Did they not positively respond to the fact that you're Snake Plissken? I figured that would be helpful...
I think they would want someone who can see out of both eyes and be able to lift heavy things without a noticeable limp

So, didn't get the job I interviewed for because I didn't have certs.
Can I downvote the company?
Haha!! They seemed like a very good company to be honest!! The whole "we are looking for specialized skills that you get with certifications" is kinda dumb if you ask me. It's that whole argument "are certifications necessary?"
