One thing that's always fun is when I get a quote from my VAR and a quote form CDW and the price is different.. then it's like pitting against each other to fight for the sale..

Throw them all into the ring and let them fight it out for your business by lowballing each other. Then you'll see how much margin they have on these licenses (which is plenty). Since it is MS licenses, take the lowest price and run.

Has anyone in the U.S. seen a really great conference room table with good cable management?

Hang on, let me grab a pic of our table. It has a compartment that closes to hide the spaghetti inside, so it looks good (mess inside, but that's your job to deal with it...). Stand by.

      Sweet. thanks!

Open and closed. Like I said, not great but OK, better than nothing.

Another successful family walk without shooting the dog down the road.

Well that's good... but why are you worried about the dog down the road? lol.

The fence doesn't go down the whole way to the ground and it got out and chased my wife one time. I'm not taking any chances.

We would walk the other direction if it didn't end up in a busy main road after like 100 feet.

Carry a stun gun, when the dogg approaches, just fire it off into the air. Dogs and crackheads will flee from that crackling sound.

I'm using youtube as an example, I have no idea what they are watching or on what platform. I just know it's not hosted by them and they access it over the WAN

Do they actually need it for some work related thing? If not, block that shit and put a no streaming policy in place. If they do actually need it, I have no idea how to solve the problem.

What's the model number of the board?

Since you've had the issue for a while now, it kinda sounds like the product has a bad network adapter, which should be covered under warranty (assuming you're inside the warranty period).

Elon Musk needs to practice his public speaking though.

He seems very nervous in this model 3 announcement video.

Possibly because the pre-orders outnumber the amount of available federal tax credits for the buyers. I don't care if the guy seems nervous when speaking, I'd rather he spend his time innovating and sticking it to oil and gas companies.

The other support the MPLS (they don't supply it. We "purchased it from then" but it run by a ISP).

That's as VAR as VAR gets. The "R" stands for Reseller.

The "R" actually stands for "bunch of crooked ass mafackas that will lie to your face to make more money".

Everyone else either printed it out or downloaded it to their device. You can't expect to have cell signal while fishing. Usually you don't

Cheating and arguing with the head honcho? Sounds like grounds for DQ.... out she goes, no fees refunded, not welcome at future events. And be sure to publicize her malfeasance to deter future cheaters.

I haven't had to contact MS that often, but whenever I contact Dell support (many of the same issues), I use chat instead of calling. Many of their techs are quite capable at typing english vs. speaking it. Seems to help get rid of the communication barrier (in my experience anyway).

A proxy server like Squid Proxy would be so perfect for this, especially with whitelisting... but since you can have anything there...

Just use the best cheapest DNS filtering service you find... I seen a bunch listed above like DNSFilter.com.

See if any of them have any trials and pick the one that is the easiest to manage that works the best.

I'm going to hit up a couple of them after lunch with my list of questions. So far, DNSFilter and Strongarm are top of the short list. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, evaluation phase is coming soon.

Better they call it David Attenborough than some of the other "real person" choices. One was some kid w/ cancer... I mean, WTF is some sob story kid doing getting nominated to have a marine research vessel named after them???

yeah, especially since the girl died this week...like, do you really want a constant reminder of that, plus the fact hardly anyone knows the kid, and they did nothing for science...

I'm very anti-sob story. everybody has problems, that doesn't make you special.

It fills my heart with joy to know that Boaty McBoatface will be there alongside the big ship 🙂

@RojoLoco said in What is New Earth:

I've always practiced a policy of "never discuss science with those who subscribe to any religion". This has saved me immeasurable time over the years.

I've known plenty of atheists with piss poor understanding of science. Of course, if one's religion clouds their ability to reason it doesn't really matter, but you can find a lot of die hard conspiracy theorists and flat earthers who are atheists too. There's one famous flat earth guy, I think his film is called "under the dome", anyway he thinks it's aliens, not God which put us in this dome.

Atheism is not an automatic sign of being reasonable or intelligent.

Who said I was atheist? That's as bad an "ism" as all the rest. I am fervently anti-religion, all of them. I believe in science, not in re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-translated stories from thousands of years ago.

Nobody, I never said you were an atheist. I was merely pointing out lack of a religion doesn't mean they're intelligent, which is what you basically said.

Actually, I said I don't discuss science with religious people. Nor do I discuss it with idiots or otherwise unreasonable people. When not at work, I surround myself with intelligent people.

So what are you defining religious as then? Any faith in anything or organised religion only?

Could be faith in anything, depends on the person. I am anti-people who feel the need to talk about their faith, whether in an organized religion or anything else. Those who need to tell me about it, I find, are generally unreasonable and are of no use to me.

How can you tell if someone is vegan / a parent / religious?

They won't shut up about it.

    • RE: Finally leaving my job, and it's just as annoying as I thought it would be

It sounds like you have documented all the things, so wash your hands of it and walk away. If they refuse to give you a replacement to train, that's on them. If whatever manager can't or won't read your documentation, then they suck at their job and are most likely a grade A pile of shit. You shouldn't feel the slightest bit bad about leaving.
