RE: Non-IT News Thread
Wasnt sure if this belonged in tech news or not since it may "if true" affect everyone in IT at some point.

Which CASB? ( dont know where to start )
Reading about security. We have a group that are focused on SaaS. Are there any opinions on the best enterprise cloud access security broker (CASB) services? I googled and saw a lot of names. This is new ground for me. Any pointers would help. Thank you.

Here they are. Giving trucks out to drunk employees with warrants out for their arrest. Grrrr....
Tried to send a shaming email to them. I think they are either flooded with emails or that form has been disabled.

This place is better than a philosophy class.
I had to step away, I have cocooned myself off too much. This is growth time for me brother. When I say Brother I sincerely mean it.
Thank you. I hope I can return the favor.

It sounds like racism of a profession
The deputy was black as well as the now deceased civilian.
My point was, classifying all law enforcement as evil reminds me of the talk I used to hear when i was a little kid. "All, (insert ethnic group) are such and such." Its sad.

RE: Non-IT News Thread
Their are black hats and white hats, their are good guys and bad guys, there are venomous snakes and harmless snakes, their are good public servants and bad public servants. Don't be so bitter and angry, its not good for you. It sounds like racism of a profession. I have family in law enforcement. The broad brush doesn't help anyone.

I would move that; given the technology we have today, we push the issue of dispersing the so called "representatives" back to the localities they so called "Represent". Makes it a lot harder to live a cloistered existence. If you can knock on my door and ask for an explanation, I may just represent you a little better.
I'd imagine that lobbying keeps them rich and in gated neighborhoods where you couldn't ever confront them. The corporations have a lot of money invested in these pawns, they don't want them mingling with the peons.
The Constitution provides a mechanism to bypass the representatives and their enablers. Check out Article 5.

@dustinb3403 "Decent" people don't run for office. Even in the rare instance when a decent person gets elected to something, they get to Washington and they have to play the game the way it already exists, thereby removing their ability to do the right thing in any scenario.

Something to remember the revolution was 2 governments fighting each other for control of the nation.
Today we don't have this issue, literally have no choice for the government. We do have a choice in who we vote for though and if those people are decent, they'll stand by what they ran on.
Rather than turn the cheek and start taking coffer money.
I can see your point, I was just thinking of it in a "We The People vs. and ever growing Leviathan in DC". I believe we agree totally.

@popester this stance honestly wouldn't surprise me.
But what I suspect would happen would be a uprising of people who know what a tyrannical government would be like and work to actively overthrow it.
So you are saying round two of 1765? We can only hope that it doesn't get that far.

Going dark, isn't a problem. The right to privacy is granted by our constitution.
I am hearing from certain circles that "The Constitution" is on life support. It is seen as an inconvenience to those who have a disdain for the individuals rights and the right to privacy. Many consider us in a "Post Constitutional" period.

RE: What Lies Beneath: Facebook Knows More Than User Data
Scouts honor. I have seen this happen. Was too creepy IMHO to be a coincidence.
Tinfoil hats not required
Some Facebook users have said that Facebook did more than just collect metadata from messages. Multiple individuals recounted to Ars occasions when they had the content of text message conversations nearly immediately affect advertisements they were shown on Facebook. These users say they saw ads that were specific to locations or services that were discussed via SMS, but those subjects were never the focus of Facebook posts or other Facebook content.

Is it okay to lie in response to a lie?
Only if you are running for office apparently.

(Hypothetical)
Let's say you are the sole bread winner, have a wife + children and get laid off. You learn of a job opportunity that you can take but in order to get said job you must lie somewhat about your qualifications. Let's say for the sake of the argument that it's 100% certain that you must lie in order to get the position. Essentially your options are lying to provide for your family or having character and being an honest person, but your family may go somewhat without.
I've been thinking about this stuff a lot lately. What is more right? My inclination would be honesty, but is it really right when I would be deciding on behalf of other people whom I am responsible for?
Honesty should always lead your actions or decisions. Lying for me (I hope) would be the last option before my children go hungry.

Getting tested for sleep apnea this week. First an at home test and then a sleep study. My doctor seems to think I may have it due to my energy levels after blood tests, etc came back good.
Good luck. I ended up with a CPAP, best thing ever.
I can only upvote this once damit! Also...a CPAP device could save your life! Sleep apnea is a strong contributor to heart arrhythmias (I know this one personally).
Or to just suffocation. That's the bigger issue with me. No CPAP, and I just stop breathing completely.
What if you just know that you have sleep apnea, can you just buy a cpap? Are there universal Cpaps? Is there any danger?

Wow, the hits keep coming. I feel sorry for all the people that work for facebook if this gets any worse. I did find it strange that I had to remove Ireland from from our block by region firewall list. Totally shut down Facebook. I wonder if they take advantage of the low tax rate somehow by doing that. Hmmm?
Facebook, like nearly all tech companies, have big offices in Dublin. Dublin is the EU's silicon valley.
Maybe its for the Guinness?
