    • RE: MS SQL export / import

Is this full blown SQL Server? or is this SQL Serve Express? If the later of the two, you should be able to port without issue depending on the software using the DB. What is the use case for SQL? This would help in making the determination.

You could potentially just make a backup of the DB, and restore it to a test install of 2016 and see what happens.

Moving the database is likely that easy. Do you not need to move the application as well?

      How dare you tech.

      No teching allowed for you.

Lol umm that was @scottalanmiller posting from my phone 😛

How dare you let "that guy" use your phone. Doesn't he have enough methods for posting?

It's *&^%$$()ing awesome. For an all around multi-purpose camera, it does a fantastic job. It's shock proof and water proof. I took some underwater pics and video in Jamaica and they turned out stellar! Highly recommend.

And what camera would this be. Neither of you two told us! @scottalanmiller said Nikon AW, but which specific one? Or are they all the same? Is there only one?

      Mine is a Coolpix AW130

I think they used to make an AW100 and 110, but I'm not sure they are available any longer. The AW130 is the current model, and they also have an AW120 - Both are waterproof and shock proof.

This could be combined with IT Finance or as a compliment to IT finance. The role-playing aspect could be very powerful. Especially if we had some real world examples from the community.

    • RE: MangoCon 2017 Topic Ideas

I am hoping to do a session on careers. Kind of a reboot of How to Get a Raise, but with more concentration on career development and advancement.

I was also considering a session on budgets and IT finance. I still believe many IT Pros have a hard time asking for money, and have a difficult time with budgets. Understanding that IT budgets are a huge waste of time and effort, but that many companies still require this approach leaves the IT pro in a sticky spot. Addressing how to handle budgeting and IT finance could potentially be an attractive subject.

      Thoughts?

@scottalanmiller We had an issue where jquery was calling to the web, and we addressed that a couple of weeks ago. I do not think there are any other calls to the outside web.

    • RE: Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

@scottalanmiller Well, I guess I will have to dig further. I don't have any glaring DNS errors, and everything else works fine. Might have to point at the programming people and dig through that. The DBMS, and the Application server for the Shop floor app run exceptionally well, and we have never had an issue with performance on those. But, I suppose this could be a client side issue.

    • RE: Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

@scottalanmiller We occasionally have issues on the shop floor with relatively slow response (4-5 seconds vs. sub-second) and when we track it down, it always points to name resolution as the hang-up. We have a shop floor app that uses hostnames, and seems to hit the DNS quite frequently. Like I said, on occasion, this will appear to slow down, and cause these intermittent lags.

    • RE: Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

@scottalanmiller Here is a link to the stats - It's the total read latency that's raised this issue in the first place.

EDIT: So, if it's memory that's causing this in the first place, I should just be able to increase RAM, and not have to swap drives, correct?

    • RE: Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

@scottalanmiller Interesting. It has 4GB at the moment. I certainly could up the memory pretty easily. I have a second DC, so I could just take it down, add more RAM and reboot in about 10 minutes. How much do you think?

      Here's the stats:

Disk Throughput 12.00 MB/s Average IO size Read: 40.82 KB / Write: 24.63 KB
IOPS 4 at 95% Average Latency 5 ms Reads and 4 ms writes
      Read/Write Ratio 86% / 14% Average Queue Depth 0.11
      Total Local Capacity 68.00 GB Peak/Min CPU 10% / 0%
      Free Local Capacity 36.00 GB (53%) Peak/Min Memory 2.49 GB / 0.91 GB
Used Local Capacity 32.00 GB (47%) Peak/Min Memory In Use 3.28 GB / 1.70 GB

    • RE: Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

@travisdh1 - We have a pretty heavy reliance on the DC, more notably the DNS due to some in house app dependencies. Our performance results from recent DPACK testing showed that this DC would benefit from SSDs vs HDDs.

    • Hot Swap SSD for HDD in a RAID 1 array

I have an HP G5 server running as a DC that has two 146GB Spindle drives in a RAID 1 config. These are hot swappable SAS drives.

I purchased 2 new SAS SSD 200GB drives, and was planning on backing up the servers, downing it, and doing a BM restore to the new drives.

Then I thought if I could simply swap one drive, let it rebuild, and then swap the other drive, I wouldn't even have to take the server down.

I don't really care about the extra space on the drives not getting used, and would be fine with the 146GB original size.

The question is: Is this possible? Could I potentially hurt the install by doing this?

      Thanks
