@Dashrender I'm a 3rd party to the end customer here. Acting as the middle man as the customer's IT department wanted to engage outside support to try and vet different products.

I candidly told the customer that while this product will work, it won't work with all of the features they want without some substantial changes to their infrastructure and that the support (at least from this vendor) is pretty awful.

The simple approach here is to not integrate RFID/HID's to the system and simply use the AD Integration with the built-in QR codes that each member is assigned.

Just because something may be supported, doesn't imply that it is support.

An entire risk that exists only for closed source.

I hope on of the products is Microsoft Teams so they can fix the glaring functional issues with it...

Is Teams really a product though? I think of it more as a service... I mean I know they have clients for desktop and mobile... but the web version definitely feels more like a service.

I did a 2-day conference over Teams last week. It actually went very well.

Working with the state has always presented itself with different things that you’d not likely find in the private sector.

      ANSII Art (.ans file type)

While I continue to search Google to assist a co-worker, I wanted to reach out and see if this has been seen before.

A task the user performed, had to save documents in this format to be uploaded to the state mainframe. Of course, it works on the Windows 7 computer, but as it is abnormal, not on Windows 10. Oh yea, and she is the only person who does this...

I have found that Notepad ++ seems to be able to access, but I have never ‘added a file type’ to the save as option in Office (Word).

You can save as anything by surrounding the entire thing in double quotes. In the save-as dialog box:
      "mydocument.ans" then click save.

      CentOS Stream

      That's what I'm referring to.

      CentOS Stream != CentOS.

They are fundamentally different systems as one is based on "Just before production ready" and the other is based on "Production ready and redeveloped after release of production"

I'm fully aware of the difference between Centos Linux and Centos Stream. That is completely besides the point, and seems like you are just trying to strawman due to lack of anything intelligent to offer, as usual.

My point was that in the future, you can use whatever OS you want that the software vendor fully supports, regardless of of its name.

This isn't a strawman argument. Would you run your production systems on something that is unsupported (assuming none of your software is supported on a development OS)?

Of course you wouldn't so saying that CentOS Stream is a valid option isn't for many because of this very issue.

Regarding the same point that someone else mentioned any distro's that are based on CentOS will now have to rebase on CentOS Stream or build from the ground up.

RedHat and RHEL really screwed over many different facets.

Now @Obsolesce how about you go shovel dirt somewhere else? Or are you not done plugging one out, wanker.

Haha, well this reply does nothing but proves your reading and comprehension abilities are severely lacking.

Nowhere did I suggest running an unsupported OS. In fact, my very point was the exact opposite, stating specifically about running an OS that is supported.

Perhaps you're the one plugging dirt with your wanker shovel, or whatever the hell you're talking about there...

So I realize that CentOS is more or less dead

No CentOS is not dead for anyone unless the software you are running on it no longer supports CentOS.

On the servers you all use that are running CentOS, what software are you using on it that will no longer support running on CentOS?

Perhaps one of tje reasons a software vendor, for example NGINX, would stop supporting CentOS, is if the release cycle is too crazy? Well,
we know that won't be the case because they already support ones that are faster.

So really, what are you all thinking? What software is dumping CentOS, why, and why not distros on a more frequent cycle instead that they support?

Yeah it varies between 28-29 MB/s. I don't have fiber so isn't as fast as it could be. But then again, it's free. So I can't really complain. It's been working well these past couple years.

I've been playing Path of Exile recently.

How is that? I've downloaded it, but never actually played it yet.

      It's like what D3 should've been if Blizzard's dev's gave a flying f.

      I'm enjoying it.

Interesting. But looking at the videos, how does it differ than D3 now that makes it better?

Everything about the game is enjoyable, where as D3 killed their platform with the real money market/ poor game design mechanics and a whiney lead developer (no joke) who simply didn't want to make a game that people would enjoy.

So, my question still remains about the game. It looks the same.

POE isn't going to look that much different because the idea is the same. It's an ARPG/HacknSlash. It may looks similar, like how cars can look very similar but the performance is drastically different. POE is the winner in 99% of it as the people who created it were hardcore diablo 2 players and basically built the game they wanted to play. The skill tree and economy both are standouts for POE. It's a lot to talk about though because there is just so much to compare.

Here is one guys opinion: https://www.requnix.com/diablo-3-vs-path-of-exile

      Hope it helps

Yes, thank you. An actual intelligent response.

While this is possible - this seems extremely unlikely. No edge firewall/router/NAT device? Again possible, likely - seems not. Only exception to this I can think of is if each of these computers were on their own internet connection, not not a shared network for the facility.

Now - that said, it's completely likely that the Windows 7 machines didn't have firewalls.

Windows 7 has a firewall, and on by default.

Just because it was not some third party thing, does not mean no firewall. I hate news reporting on technical details.

I couldn't remember if Win 7 had one by default...

How? I don't know of any OS in the past 20 years that doesn't by default. Even XP did.

no, XP didn't - not until SP3 (might have been SP2)

I didn't realize you were still so incredibly used to vanilla XP that you aren't sure whether or not anything since then has firewall on by default.

Until 2022 I will not have budget to put something perhaps more solid in place, so I need to put something in place for now until then. Discussing the situation wont help, I am at the stage of seeing what is possible to get us somewhere better than nothing.
