My vote would be to follow your example of keeping each array together on the backplane, not sure if it's going to make a difference but that's my gut.
You're inevitably going to get a question / inquisition on why R5 on the 6 SSDs so.... counting down .... 3..... 2...... 1.....

I've been sent to the house of a former owner before, so this scenario doesn't surprise me. Sounds like it will give you some good experience anyway.
Experience for what? No business does stuff like this? They dont put a new facility in a location without wired internet access. It just isnt done.
I was referring to standard networking experience. But I guess Canada has third world internet access compared to the US, because there are lots of businesses running with wireless internet, and the percent can be high depending on the industry.
Depends where.... Everyone says that here in NB we were almost world leaders from a telecom perspective before NB Tel turned into Aliant, then Bell Aliant and then Bell Canada....
I think that part of the problem is that we're spread so thin it's hard to justify the infrastructure spend... consider that our whole country has less population than the state of California to put ROI into perspective...

RE: Enterprise IT communityposted in Water Closet
Don't know if we qualify as enterprise, but communities like this help get an external perspective regardless of the size of the organization. The challenge I find in larger orgs is the inertia involved in anything IT. Almost in the literal sense as far as trying to get something started but also in trying to halt / redirect a project that's heading for a bad outcome.

Yeah, they are saying that they want all the email communications between us and our customers in order to audit the info to find any discrepancies that we could challenge. First off, that sounds like they would have access to way too much sensitive information. Second, this sounds like a PITA.
No, they want the TRAFFIC of it at the firewall, which should be encrypted, so they won't be able to see anything.
Literally, they are saying that. But, they don't know how anything works, so they are just using firewall because they don't know that it's different from email archiving.
Their lack of knowledge is not your problem :angry_face_with_horns:

This is best achieved by capturing all inbound and outbound email at a firewall and providing relevant content to Harvest via a periodic download.* "
Bwahahaha... they want a wireshark dump of encrypted data? WTF. Give them that as some enormous file that they can't even download. That will be hilarious.
Lol
Things like this bring out the BOFH in all of us...

Also maybe in violation of data security and privacy concerns.
Google Harvest Revenue Group.... it's weird to say the least that the website concentrates on the President having a Bachelor's degree and multiple master's degrees related to theology..... and no formal education listed with regards to business, finance or litigation..... Does he pray the bills away?

So,back to the OP's topic. Among the IT team we've been using KeePass since before I came onboard. I saw Buttercup and skimming the site it looks like an interesting option https://buttercup.pw/
I've installed that on my system, but not yet set it up beyond creating the bcup file.
We briefly talked about it a couple weeks ago.
Alright, I couldn't remember if it was here or another site where I first saw the project.

So, all kidding aside (about me becoming the boring thing) is there something that I'm overlooking or missing out on or have computers and OSs in general gotten really boring over the last few years? I used to recall getting interested in new features, a new distribution or a DE's latest release not so many years ago. Now it seems that things are more or less the same across the board... a boring game of IT theme and variation. Anyone else seeing the same thing(s) out there?
It's your age (as in experience). And the fact that the technology is becoming relatively mature.
It's natural to not feel enthusiasm when you see something similar for the 15th or 30th time.If some completely new mind-boggling technology showed up, you'd probably feel like a kid again!
He should go play in the clouds

Ouff, cloud..... being forced to play there but not exactly enthusiastic about the whole idea.... damn I'm starting to sound (and feel) like an old curmudgeon

Since that was the same OP, I'm guessing that that is not the issue with this one.
I would hope so, but we're all human and the issue seems very similar. I think he had another one where it was something about 2 instances of the server app like I mentioned in an earlier post but I couldn't find that one.
Makes me glad that I'm not doing 1st level support anymore
And even then, our 1st level guys have more discretion than this, both our internal IT team and the (currently) small team for external support. -
RE: Started as Win 7 Issue.. Now Job Searching?posted in IT Discussion
OK, deja vu all over again?
Didn't we have another long-ass thread about the same (or similar) issue and it was something about the server-side app being called 2x and messing with the terminals' access to the server-side resources?

- Drinking Innis & Gunn Gunpowder IPA
- Listening to Scottish / Irish / Celtic music
- Planning on a wee dram of scotch once the beer is done

@notverypunny said in Started as Win 7 Issue.. Now Job Searching?:
So... did the original issue actually ever get resolved?
No, we never found the slightest place to start on it. We have extremely little information and the company in question has been working on this for a long time and never was able to find an answer and blocks the only real troubleshooting step that we have to work with. If we had access to the machine, we might be able to make headway, but even that is a stretch. Digging into logs, using wireshark, who knows. But with th ehigh level information provided, and a history that suggests that isn't an easily fixed (or maybe possible to fix) issue, we've got really nothing to work with.
Alright, so let's set aside the disagreements about how the company runs their show and the clusterfuck around Win10 upgrades and at least give the man some things to check... And FFS if we can find him a job where his talents are put to better use....
IIRC there are multiple terminals connecting to this "server" and there's only 1 terminal that can't connect to the smb share.
Given this scenario:
- is the share pw protected or otherwise protected with authentication?
- is the underlying ntfs ACL'd?
- hoping that the answer to both of the above is yes, is the client properly configured with UN / PW?
- is the FW on the server configured to only allow access from specific IPs / ranges?
- I can't find the docs right now, but wasn't there an issue somewhat recently where users in the admin group are blocked access to file shares?
- try accessing the shares by IP
- can the admin shares be reached by name or IP
- hell, can the server be pinged from the client
Like @scottalanmiller said, there's not a whole hell of a lot to go on, but the above should start to point towards Windows file sharing vs networking vs general M$ dickery

RE: Time for a mobile phone upgradeposted in Water Closet
Yeah, I haven't seen too many newer devices supported with 3rd party ROMs.
The only reason I flashed our devices 3rd party was to get something closer to "stock" android and to keep getting security updates after the manufacturer discontinued support.
My GS5 was still getting security updates and running a Pie based ROM via Lineage until gravity + parking lot gravel = dead screen.
The SO's ZenFone2 isn't getting updates from anyone anymore, but Lineage gave about 2 years more updates than stock Asus... trying to convince her that a Pixel3 would be a good idea.
My Nexus 7 (2012) wifi got an AOSP build just in May.... not useful for much except low end videos for the kids in the car, or as an alarm clock
