RE: Why On Premises Spiceworks Is Impacted
Understandable. That just may have to be something that they port by sneakernet to the outside world.

Question is how are they going to get the patch out if they're always down?

RE: Can You Get to the Spiceworks Community?
It seems to be that having failovers is best practices in most instances. I would think/hope that SW would have thought far enough ahead to have a failover location in a location that is geographically separate from their main systems. Maybe a place like...lets say...London? Hmmm....Now who do we know in London? Oh, wait. SW is in London as well. Well how about that? Now the question is, why didn't they utilize their London office as a failover site?

RE: Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab
@travisdh1 So you do have a point there. It is still within my network but, like you said, at least I'm not seeing the ads anymore. This is both more of convenience and security.

RE: Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab
Currently my home lab consists of a Raspberry Pi B+ and Raspbian. I currently have Home-Assistant and Pi Hole. Not doing much with the Home Assistant but the Pi Hole is definitely saving us some internal bandwidth as its sucking out the ads of the web pages.
Next goal is to take an old Dell desktop and turn it into a SmoothWall firewall. I have a DuckDNS but need to setup a VPN to phone home. The current problem is the absence of knowledge of server-level Linux, which I plan to start on.

RE: DuoLingo Challenge
@scottalanmiller So, how many languages are you already fluent in? Computer languages and Klingon don't count. However, I think it would be cook if DuoLingo did add Klingon to their repertoire.

RE: DuoLingo Challenge
@scottalanmiller Been duolingo off and on. I get to working on it and then stop for a while and my progress just goes back to crap. Need to learn spanish first so that I can talk to the locals that I work with. Then I want to attempt to learn hebrew or greek or something.

@scottalanmiller Factors into the cost of downtime. What does it cost your company when a system goes down?
