I've locked my FB profile down so only friends can find me - while I know FB constantly opens this back up... it's all I can do at this point.

I see it as keeping the stalkers out 😄

Who wants colleagues scabbing tech support after hours (Still takes effort to say no)?

      Like a what?

You need to watch more classic cinema. One of the most important Australian movies ever.

I think I can be forgiven for missing an Australian movie...

      You're terrible Muriel.

^This is why I don't post a lot. Either here, SW, FB or Twitter.
The more you post, the more likely it is that you will shoot your mouth off.

But conversely, the more you post the less any one post stands out and the more you post the more you, and not someone else, controls your online persona.

Yes, but if, hypothetically, most of your posts are vitriolic bile, then it doesn't matter how much you post. No one likes a troll.

Most of my posts are very mild to say the least but I still like to think that I'm lurking in the shadows and mildly-difficult to track over the interwebs 😉
I know I'm not but for the type of surface level searches that companies do, I think that I'm difficult enough to find a lot on without investing a large, less attractive amount of time.

EDIT: Yes, that could work against me but I'm not worried, I don't think I'd like a job where they had to put that much research into me.

Very true. Employers likely are looking at everything that you do online.

Also, it helps to use different usernames. I only use nadnerB here and at SW but on a few other social services like Twitter and FB, I use... something else...

Edit: thought better of leaving an unrelated username easily accessible 😉 Granted, playing the connect-a-dot game is still relatively easy, effort is still required.

I bought albums for years. I had over 1,200 CDs by the time I was in my later college years. I had lots of cassettes (maybe 50) and some vinyl too (maybe 30-40.) I had DVD Audio and SuperCD too, but not in large quantities. But now nearly everything that I get is individual songs.

It's very rare that I get new music and rarer that I buy it (I don't torrent it either). I have other priorities.

I usually encourage people to by my movies/music for Christmas and/or my birthday as I wouldn't normally buy them myself.

      I'm < 30 and I still buy whole albums. I can't help it.
The era of the album is definitely long gone (long gone as in tech industry length of time not archeological length of time).

I will always find a song that I like on any Album... by like I mean like the most on that album.
As far as I remember, I'm yet to find an album that I disliked 100%.

Yeah, as a rule I buy albums, not songs.

It messes with my head far too much to buy just one song and also, I usually end up liking another song on the album better than the one I bought the album for.

Now what is going to be hard, is that the old acts made their records by selling records (pun intended.) The rankings are normally by album sales. But the era of albums is long over. Sure they exist, but few people buy "by the album" anymore and many artists don't release music that way. So tracking sales in that manner is misleading. TS, for example, many years ago was the leading artist, of all time, in digital download sales. That isn't just a few background sales, those are huge percentages of her sales and often they don't count towards the rankings.

I wouldn't say over. Adele, Eminem, Nora Jones, Taylor Swift, Linkin Park, Britney Spears, Coldplay. All massive and all relatively recent (this century, anyway).

Maybe you're just getting old, Scott?

Some of those I don't even think of as large artists at all. Some are big, Taylor Swift has a chance for a pretty massive career ahead of her if she keeps it together, but at this time, none of those are at all in the same league as the classics.

The only one who is pretty close as far as a standout is Eminem. The only decent rapper on the market for decades now...

      Is that what that is?

      😛 lol (couldn't resist)

So, several months ago the cable service was cut when the city came in a had to put in new drain line. It took about four days to get service resourced.

Well would you believe THEY CUT THE SAME LINE AGAIN?

What is wrong with people... UGH.

What happened to calling 811 before you dig?......

If your 811 before you dig is the same (or similar) to our 1100 before you dig, then this is good, obviously, because there is less chance to cut a cable

However, not everything is done the way the documentation says that it is. While onsite, the person laying the cable might decide to take a different route with the cable to save money/avoid something unforeseen/whatever. This rarely makes it back to the documentation. So the 811/1100 crowd might say "no worries, all good" but the neighbourhood phone lines are buried right where your about to dig...
