I like the older 3cx softphone for windows that supports asterisk better than zoiper. I've had odd issues with zoiper not liking my sound card and wouldn't play sounds through the speakers so it would only ring in the usb headset.

That one was great while it lasted.

That means, though, that you can only really evaluate stuff that you specifically need and can afford. You could never review a VMAX, for example. I appreciate the idea and see the value in it, but I don't think it is practical unless you are insanely rich and seeking to donate your wealth to hardware manufacturers. There is no simple answer. If you get everything for free you are not invested in it. If you pay for everything you get screwed and/or never get a lot of gear that people would like to see you use.

Exactly. There is a reason all companies with product attend trade shows, do free demos and give always. They are marketing. They are getting their name out there and getting REAL users and real feedback.

Yup. Only real way to do it. Got a new product? Who will buy it? No one, until you give some away and let people try it out, kick the tires, see if it makes sense and start talking about it.

If you need that much in calling, and Voicepulse doesn't work for ya, maybe look at the big guys. The Death Star, Big Red V, and CenturyLink do have SIP trunking for a more than Voicepulse but offers much more, like decentralized low latency endpoints and great backbone transversal.

VoicePulse has two points on the east coast and two on the west coast.

Nothing unless you have a lot of inbound calling. Then I like VoicePulse, but I hate their 4 concurrent call limit.

It's not a limit, exactly. It is just a pricing tier. But the tiering is bizarre. So if you need ~4 it is great. If you need more than 4 it isn't.

Time to start looking at Edgerouters.

Do they support dual WAN links with failover?

      They sure do!

Oh SonicWall, the bane of VoIP. I would never run those for anything. Total garbage. They mess with your traffic and break things. Completely worthless. Worst firewall I know to find while doing VoIP work.

What would you replace them with?

Netgear ProSafe is better! Although I wouldn't use those anymore. Ubiquiti owns the low end space. Such high quality, such low price.

Pretty much if you need UTM Sophos for most people and Palo Alto on the high end. If you don't need a full UTM, Ubiquiti. At some scale you need to look at Juniper, Brocade or Cisco type gear, but that scale is HUGE.
