Sweet mother of god I had no idea anyone still used DAT160. I used these when I started in IT and they were bomb proof!

How long a period did it take to kill 4 of them? Are you cleaning them regularly? Do you use fresh media every couple of years? Do you rotate through media regularly and not write to the same tape a zillion times?

If you work in IT, I suggest you whitebox (buy it all separately) a linux server. Cheap, works great, "free" learning experience. Then you can get all the options you want!

Back in the office after a week and a bit off sick. Got mobbed with broken junk, boss is on the phone yelling at stupid people and I'm sitting here with a big grin.

I missed this place and these people. Probably you too.

Pretty much the moment I brought up anything Linux based or scripting, it was shot down and I was told to find something that anyone would feel comfortable with.

10 is way more than enough to give yourself a serious challenge and do some hardcore learning.
