@pete-s wow no more than 1 year ago aruba switches (hpe) where served with real lifetime. Did they cut warranty so much?! Also they where replaced within 1 week.
I've seen a lot of netgear go crazy, but it was the unmanaged tier stuff.

log in to the switch.... and then
sho log -r
That will show you the most recent entries in the log. Look for anything related to STP.
I think it is:
log -r -w
Without the 'show'. The -w switch helps filtering out less relevant stuff.

What services are on this?
What does the switch it is connected to tell you? It's a file server. No disruption in service has been noticed.
The switch is one of the HP procurve smart-switches. Can't remember what model but it's gigabit. I don't know what kind of logging it has, if any.
In my experience spanning tree on managed switches can cause random "holes". If it is a procurve 2xxx or higher it should have a console with a log command. A handy one able to filter warnings and so.
Would be interesting to log into the switch and check the file server port. -

any L2 managed switch with spanning tree?

s the B2 product the one we would use with the server edition? And are there any other cloud backup products out there I should consider?
yes, check the integration partners product list
other providers I'm aware of are not as competitive as. -

How about the machines that doesn't have a dedicated port?
This CAN be VLAN'd but makes doing so much more of a pain and defeats much of the purpose. This is one of the many reasons that people rarely do this today.
Usually shared ports can be tagged from within the OOB interface. ILO definitively lets you apply a vlan tag.

RE: Hyper-V 2016 (Switch) and NIC
@joel said in Hyper-V 2016 (Switch) and NIC:
So, I've built a HyperV server 2016 and have provisioned two VMS. All great so far, however I have a problem getting internet access to the VMs.
Our HV host has internet access - all okay.
I created a Hyper V Switch (external network), and then ensured the VM's virtual adapter is connected to the switch. However we get a 169. IP.On the host itself, if I enter SConfig and go to Network settings, I see two adapters (1 is the local NIC which has a valid IP), the other is my Hyper V Virtual Ethernet adapter with a 169. IP.
I have tried giving it a Static but it still wont work!
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.Dont know where the issue is but it seems you are getting ip from the internal network. Tey detach the vm.from the switch, destroy it and rebuild it ans reattach it.

@romo we've got several places where we might want to use that, and more soon.
Why? Agentless VM Level backups are useless. You've said that often enough.
May I upvote this 100 times...

@jaredbusch this is a bit old but maybe can help.
Unfortunately it seems there is no solution to stop the file to grow. -
RE: LVM, MDADM, and MD RAID
@scottalanmiller woa! I was sure it was the opposite! I really don't know where I learned it... Anyway my time w/ linux begins in 2004/2005 and I've always been more on the coding side of things. Interesting discovery!

RE: LVM, MDADM, and MD RAID
@obsolesce mdadm predates lvm. Mdadm was about raid, lvm about thick/thin provisioned volumes which were like on-the-fly resizeable partitions. Usually you see mdadm -more battle tested- for raid management and lvm for flexible partitioning on top of mdadm.
Later they added raid capabilities to lvm. But honestly I ignored this! -
RE: Looking for Dedicated EU based Server
@irj we have seeweb in italy. Never tried them but they are renowed as a good trusted company here.

RE: Why is the Third World Running Windows?
Also consider the second hand market. A lot of old stuff is resold (with relavant markups) to third world countries. Old stuff comes preconfigured with dismissed versions of win.

Also, you could use Hyper-V Replica, or Veeam for Replication.
Could, but Hyper-V Replication requires SA.
Thought we got to the bottom of that before in a large discussion... replication does NOT require SA; replication requires nothing, only a license to cover the VM and hardware on which you turn on the replica.
We did.
Hyper-V Replication requires SA. Replication from some other tool does not.No we went over this. Everything SA-related was in regards to the disaster recovery benefit, nothing at all to do with Hyper-V Replication.
Correct. You can use Hyper-V Replica without SA.
I think they are debating the windows vm replica scenario. You can replicate linux freebsd as you want. I still miss the official docs on replica and SA. I dont know which one is right here...

RE: How to take advantage of virtualization. Major products get updated
@brandon220 said in How to take advantage of virtualization. Major products get updated:
For those new to KVM: What is the general consensus on having a Fedora-based KVM host that boots and runs from a SSD but uses a software RAID on spinning rust for the VM storage?
In theory you want fast disks were the workload is. So if in doubt just use fast disks for vm not for the hypervisor

RE: KVM Virtual Machine Boot Order
Now to be fair both mine and @dafyre cases could be solved with longer polling intervals, so they are a sysadmin issue not related to virtualization. Anyway hv agents are used for a lot of things, I don't see why they couldn't act as kubernates with containers. I suppose it is just a lack of demand.
