    • Purchase options for a small non profit 25 staff

Hello everyone, so my dilemma is one of my clients went down this week due to modem and router getting nuked. Apparently the power companies fluctuations caused more damage that we expected. So my client has a Dell (rather had lol) Sonic Wall in place which is basically dead and a business class modem from our cable company. So the cable company will be replacing their modem, no big deal. The router on the other hand isn't that easy obviously.

So I'm stuck and torn between getting one of the Ubiquti routers. This client will only ever have 1 office. Up to but never exceeding 30 staff. Each person has a VoIP phone. They don't do network security cameras but in the future that might be a possibility. In my case with this client I'm thinking of just getting the Ubiquiti Unifi Security Gateway Pro (USG-PRO-4) or the Ubiquiti Networks Edgerouter Poe-5-Port Router with Poe. I actually use the 5 port one in my own office but I realize it gets hotter than Arizona! I'm not sure if it's worth it to just go head and gab the USG.

    • RE: Getting A Dell T320 To Work As Dual Monitor Workstation

@momurda said in Getting A Dell T320 To Work As Dual Monitor Workstation:

5 dollar gt 710 is better than that thing. Likely the new drivers for quadro on amd site dont even work with it, so Win10 is probably unsupported.

I agree, just go to Best Buy and buy the cheapest video card. I've used one and it works fine for gaming so it should work fine for any office work obviously!

I switched to the RDP Manager and I get more options exposed to help. Rarely having that issue anymore after patching.

@fateknollogee Agreed. Always good to layout what is available, let the people make a choice as to what is right for their situation.

Kinda getting the hang of Twilio it's different than what we use right now which is Vitelity but I think it's only because I came from telco's years ago and was expecting something different 🙂

Whoever had Windstream, RUN! That's all I can say. I almost had to write the FCC on them due to shady practices for porting numbers!

While I agree in general with you, I have to disagree in a case like this. I would suggest, https://wheniwork.com works fine for me and it is free for the projects I've used it was better than our "free" spreadsheets and word docs which were 100x more painful to deal with.

@bnrstnr I don't see how free is expensive. What industry are you in if you don't mind me asking? I may be able to help you out on this on bro.

Why not just get an app and a tablet to do the same thing vs using a punch clock?

I'd say all your clients move to Chrome OS, you can still have linux in the infrastructure handling stuff.

    • RE: How Can the FTE Model Compete with the MSP Model?

But that doesn't make sense. If you didn't know what the cost of the FTE was at first, and came in and charged set rates, there is a 50% chance you cost the same and a chance you cost more or less. You have to prove if you do cost more why it would be more efficient and effective to use a MSP vs a FTE (or a group of FTE).

But it dawned on me, I think we are all trying to assume and generalize a lot of different factors which leads to disagreement.

I can agree that if the same company hired me on as a FTE that I work for as a MSP he would be paying more to have me vs just me staying as MSP. But then would come a conflict of interest I couldn't work my real IT job as a FTE and also 2nd company as a FTE. That would be insane on my part!

      EHR = BIG
I'm glad I'm not in that boat again haha. I create the reports and it doesn't cost 1000.00. Thank God. SaaS web service I use is Quickbase.com.

Well a better question is what is she doing in a spreadsheet that she shouldn't already be doing in a database? Makes little to no sense, she becomes a "SILO".

Then it's a personal problem, not the individual working the systems. It's a shame public humiliation isn't an option haha joking guys.

@scottalanmiller in that model, then it assumes no company ever should have a FTE or a FTE in IT only?
