RE: My experiences with Hyper-V Server 2016
Old thread but I just found this out after wasting a few hours last evening trying to get Hyper-V 2016 on my Dell 2950 lab server. Processors need to support SLAT

RE: Met with fiber isp guy, he gave us a proposal
be sure to verify their fiber delivered POTS lines support faxes or modems. GET IT IN WRITING IF YOU NEED IT!! Many times, as mentioned these are VoIP lines that are just connected to an ATA and will not support modems or faxes. If it something like Verion Fios, their "POTS" lines do support fax (they simply do a digital to analog conversion at the ONT, not voip from what I can tell) and we have not had any troubles with modems; not true though with our Time Warner fiber circuit.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@DustinB3403 Speaking of that, my town is doing a "Solarize" initiative where they are offering lower up front cost to get panels installed and are waiving some of the permit fees. Looks like the installers are offering net metering. Since I have to get teh roof re-done anyways this year might be a good time to make the leap.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Researching recommendations for entertainment options for a 4 and a 2 year old on a 12 hour car ride. Kindle fire may get loaded up with a lot of movies but the 2 year old still doesn't get to not swipe the screen

RE: Finding Wireless Interference Source
Typically you would use a spectrum analyzer to look at the frequency range in question. Problem is most of them are expensive. We use a product from Ekahau when doing site surveys to determine wifi in use and interference from things like microwave ovens:
https://www.ekahau.com/products/spectrum-analyzer/overview/
I believe we paid over $6000 for it though.
There was a cheap one out there that worked well I'll see if I can find it.
Other option is a software defined radio that can tune the 2.4GHz band, coupled with a radio program like SDR# (pronounced SDRSharp) that can scan the band in question. You look on the scan as its happening for peaks in the frequency range; those are either your wifi AP's or other devices causing interference. @gjacobse may have some info on one; the one I have doesn't go up that high in frequency. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@EddieJennings Definitely document your experience with leaving them. Our contract is up Feb 2018 and Myself, our COO and our carrier services guy all want to leave them and port our numbers (and we have a LOT of numbers) out from them

RE: Weekend Plans
The younger one turns 2 this weekend. Big picnic planed for Sat, except that most of the guest list can't make it now due to either other commitments or personal issues. SO I guess I'll be eating nothing but burgers and hot dogs for the next week.
Sunday, might actually finally get my lab "stuff" moved out of the garage into the basement and set up we will see -
RE: ADUC: Clear 'dead' computers

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Back from a successful first time camp out with the family. My 4 year old handled a 2.5 mile hike that felt like it was entirely uphill without any complaints at all, and both of them had their first open fire cooked hot dogs and s'mores. Now back to the grind as next week this guy's on vacation so extra prep work this week so I don't get any calls (hopefully)
