I have two roadblocks with a .net core console app I need to get resolved. I am looking for someone with the expertise to solve these issues for me.

I can discuss the app here, but if you are interested, let's negotiate the terms privately.

Is it a Linux issue, .NET on Linux issue, or an issue with the software? Running .NET on Linux is very straightforward and is an IT issue. The software is a programming issue. So important as it affects what type of firm you'd engage.

I can't get it to run properly as a serviced. No idea why. Not my cup of tea.

So if we start with the most important one, why does the ATA get fax tomes when it dials a cell ph0ne number?

Are you sure you set this all up right?
You created SIP registration credentials correctly?
      Device is registered?
Inbound TN is routed correctly to the SIP Credential Endpoint?

I'm pretty certain. It was registered. When I called the number the device attached to the ATA rang. When I answered it, it stopped ringing but I could not hear any conversation.

When I dial out from the ATA, I hear fax tones.
I think I need to ask Skyetel to disable T.38 for this number, but I fear they will just say, "We don't support that".

    • ATA on Skyetel???

      New ATA issue today.
I have a 191-MPP from Cisco. I need it for an audio recording that dials out when a door is opened after hours.

I have the ATA registered to Skyetel as an ATA with SIP Credentials.

I have two issues, when the ATA dials out, it is presented with FAX tones. I think Skyetel is doing this.

When I call the ATA, the connected device answers, but when I speak to it, no audio is heard at the connected device.

      I may have two issues.

So if we start with the most important one, why does the ATA get fax tomes when it dials a cell ph0ne number?

No audio means NAT issue right?

Enabling SIP Transformations worked. But it broke PJSIP.

Looks like I will be creating firewall rules to turn on SIP translation for these two devices only 😞

    • No audio at Fanvil PA2S Paging Gateway

      The PBX Is Vital PBX.
I have two Fanvil PA2S paging gateways configured as SIP extensions. (They do not do PJSIP).

When I call the gateway extension, the gateway answers, plays the "beep-beep" but does not play the audio being spoken.

No audio means NAT issue right?

Am I missing something simple? or should I look at firewall rules to handle nat differently for these two devices?

They probably haven't been paying for them. They just did not know it. That is the point.

I'll see if Skyetel can help since they are getting them.

You are porting and found these missing? Yeah, your incoming carrier is not going to be able to do more than look up who owns a number.

But they shouldn't tell you who that is.

This is really all I am looking for. Thanks for the info. I have a ticket in to them, I hope to find out who has them sometime today.

They even have video tutorials to do this 🙂

To me, video tutorials are more of a pain. Like when I'm looking for a single command I need to run in the middle of the instructions, good luck quickly finding that in a video!

They might be perfect for someone who has never used ProfWiz before, and wants to accomplish this task.

We do this all the time with the free ProfWiz from https://www.forensit.com/domain-migration.html

They even have video tutorials to do this 🙂

This is the most troublesome I have seen with this technique, turned out to be a permissions issue.

    • How to find lost phone numbers?

We have a client who owns a block of 100 telephone numbers, but they can only find 57 of them on their phone bills. Calling the other 43 indicate the numbers have been disconnected.

It is likely, that over the years, numbers have been dropped or lost.

Is there a place to turn, to try and find out where these numbers are?

      Thanks.

      @JaredBusch Is the VM Gen1 or Gen2?

Look on the Summary tab at the bottom of Hyper-V Manager when the VM Server is highlighted.

    • RE: Password Managers

So I have been using BitWarden since this conversation started. I have to say I like it. I think I am ready to remove all the saved passwords from Edge and Chrome. Would this be the next step?
It's a wee bit scary. But BitWarden does claim to have the same number of passwords as my Edge and Chrome, and the BitWarden password tool is working! 🙂

I assume you are referring to my post of the script I came up with yesterday AFTER I read your post suggesting a script to do it?

Geeeeesh. The next time I want to share a solution I came up with, as a result of your suggestion, I won't.

@Dashrender said in How Do You Replace Active Directory?:

you push a script that flips the switch making them have to change their password as needed.

For environments without AD, we'll set these rules at the local PC.

This is the script I came up with:
      PassRules.Cmd

rem Create a random number between 42 and 90 for password aging
      set /a _rand=(%random%*48/32768)+42

      rem Set Minimum Password Length
      net accounts /minpwlen:12

rem Set Max Password Age to our random number
      net accounts /maxpwage:%_rand%

rem Set refusal to allow any of the last 5 passwords
      net accounts /uniquepw:5

rem Lockout user after 10 failed login attempts
      net accounts /lockoutthreshold:10

rem Set screen timeout to 15 minutes for both AC and battery power
      powercfg /change monitor-timeout-ac 15
      powercfg /change monitor-timeout-dc 15

rem Lock workstation after 15 minutes of idleness for both AC and battery power
      powercfg.exe /setacvalueindex scheme_current sub_video videoconlock 900
      powercfg.exe /setdcvalueindex scheme_current sub_video videoconlock 900

Just use local accounts. It's so easy that you can manage the whole environment for less effort than maintaining AD.

Curious.... How are you enforcing password changes at the local PC for users?

      Why does this matter?

Because we're required to enforce it.

      By whom?
