There has to be an exception like being a part time teacher.

For me, as the employer, I let the existing of a W2 separate side jobs from employment.

Side businesses on your resume with a "period of time" date through "Current" is immediate disqualification in our company as a conflict of interest.

By that logic, ANY current job would eliminate you as a conflict of interest. That just doesn't make sense as a disqualification.

"Side Businesses" are not current employers by any stretch.

Install and enable latest OnlyOffice app, Install and enable document server app; thatโ€™s it.

There is a limit of 20 concurrent users unless you compile yourself.

Side businesses on your resume with a "period of time" date through "Current" is immediate disqualification in our company as a conflict of interest. Or potential conflict of interest, or just something we don't allow. Take your pick. If an employee takes just one 30 second call from a "side work" client while on our dime, they are immediately terminated.

Now, I would say, from the employee perspective; keep it secret.

That's cool. Too bad they can't pick a name other than Groupware, it sounds too much like Groupwise, which I despised.

I am excited to try it though.

Now that they have some extra time on their hands, I wish they would change how they name files stored at S3 when it is primary storage.

      Really, I am excited.

Small update - something else to consider changing - disable Fast Boot.

Fast Boot means when you restart the computer, it doesn't do a full shutdown. It's likely that counters that are often reset upon a full reboot, aren't reset on a Fast Boot.

Fast boot used to be called hibernation. It is a fucking stupid nasty feature

Interesting. But, they also still have hibernation.

Easy to fix that - admin CMD window -> powercfg -hibernate off

I meant, they still have a separate function for hibernate. Why would they offer both, if they are the same thing?

You don't understand fast boot is hibernation. it is 100% the same thing. Just automatic.

Nope - not according to MS
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/kernel/distinguishing-fast-startup-from-wake-from-hibernation

"... a fast startup simply loads the hibernation file (Hiberfil.sys) into memory to restore the previously saved image of the Windows kernel and loaded drivers."

This is a hibernation explanation is its simplest form.

@Jimmy9008 said in New IT Position UK, any advice/feedback?:

โ€ข Monitoring, maintaining and improving IT Infrastructure, network, security, storage, virtualized environments, servers, network devices & productivity tools

Is there budget to support these tasks? Nothing worse than saying you want to improve a firewall, and being told there is no money.

I agree that this is REALLY broad and after reading the description, I can say you will likely not find someone with appreciable skills in all areas.

I wouldn't answer this ad because I don't feel I could provide enough value to my employer in every area. I think you should clarify that you are okay with novice skills in some areas if they are offset with advanced skills in other areas.

Hmmm...... Makes me contemplate whether Windows 7 security updates end at 12:00am on Jan 14 or at 11:59pm on Jan 14th.

This could immediately place Windows 7 OSes at more risk, than people may have thought, this soon after the end of security updates.

      My thoughts.

Legally, the data is encrypted and can be advertised as such. No laws broken.

Now, here is where you can go after the vendor, with a single word: "Negligence."

The vendor will be found profoundly negligent in the way they designed their software.
