RE: Automation thought
Sure, and consider Robocopy so you have the ability to handle open files, timeout, and logging; and transfer with a multithreaded tool.
Here one we use almost daily:
We run this command on the destination server.robocopy "\\server\d$\data files" "d:\Shares\data" /E /R:0 /W:0 /NFL /NDL /log+:d:\DATA-log.txt

RE: 4G Failover questions
We have a PepLink MAX BR1 Mini LTE at every one of our customer locations. We use DNS to handle any incoming traffic routing. We configure our firewalls to use it as a failover gateway. It's flawless. Slower than the main ISP, but flawless.
We had a municipal customer lose their internet Tuesday, and they failed over to LTE and were able to keep running just fine.
This, in fact, is how we got started with the whole Cellular failover thing. Many of our customers are municipalities, and they absolutely cannot be without internet access to the state's voter records on election days. We have since done this with any customer that needs failover internet and WiMax is not within reach.

RE: MSDTC issues
Well, we found how to fix the symptom, be we do not know why it is so.
This network is 10.1.10.0/23
The only users having trouble were on the 10.1.11.0 portion of the network.
There are no configuration mishaps anywhere in the workstation, servers, switches or routers.
It's just weird.
But the MSDTC errors have stopped, and the staff who were suffering are happy.

RE: Vertically wall mounting Dell R640 Chassis
The new servers have lever clips that work with square holes and rails. You won't find any adapter to make this work. (If you do, let me know.)
Make sure the steel frame of the server wraps around and is inside the ears. You'll know, the ears will feel like they will hold a MAC truck if the steel chassis goes into them. They will feel very weak if not.
Make sure the rack you are considering will take the weight of the server. At least 100lbs.
Get a two U rack.
Mount the server in the closest U to the wall.
Here is where your imaginations has to work. You need to make sure the server doesn't move around. You can place cage nuts in the next square hole, or you can use what ever you want to keep the server from jumping off the rack. The rack you linked to with the cover is nice because the server can't escape without removing the cover.
Cooling: IF the room is climate controlled, and IF your server load is "normal" you will not have a cooling issue. If, however your load is high and your fans are always screaming, you MAY have a cooling issue that might not exist if mounted horizontally. But I doubt it.
We do this all the time, never had an issue.
YMMV.

RE: Who do you use for content delivery? (If that is even the right phrase)
@scottalanmiller said in Who do you use for content delivery? (If that is even the right phrase):
We used Rackspace for this in the past, and they were okay. That's what ML used to use, in fact.
AWS is the market leader here, of course. Wasabi, Backblaze, Azure... all major players. A lot comes down to what you want. You want that CDN to just be blob storage on large scale, Wasabi is amazing, but if you need it for image hosting for your site's actual in line images, might be too slow. If you want streaming media, CloudFlare's media offering is going to be the best way to go. It depends a bit on the media and it's size, type, and need.
Thanks. I'm getting more info on media types and sizes this morning.

When you have "interactive" don't you have to be logged in for the task to run?
No, the only two options for Mode are "Interactive Only" and "Interactive/Background" the slash mean Or in this case.

Duplicati - How to exclude based on date (filtering)
Duplicati does not allow you to use a filter for selecting files based on either creation or modified date.
Have any of you needed to overcome this? and if so, how did you?

RE: UniFi Protect G3 Instant - Unboxing, review, and comparison
I was put off by his praising a "wireless" cameras that needs cabled power. I might as well pull PoE if I am going to try and get power to a discrete location for the camera. Obviously, you can place these on tables and shelves and run lamp extension cords, but theses locations may not (in all likelihood) be where you want the cameras. None of the 22 cameras at my house are within 6' of an AC outlet.

Mind if I ask what you are doing for power? POE? or batteries?
PoE.
I actually try and get everything PoE. I'll even get different brands from other industries (for some projects) just to be able to do PoE.
Things I run on PoE:
My kid's MagicMirror is a 12 volt 24" lcd and Raspberry Pi with a microwave motion sensor and the whole project runs off a single PoE feed.
Door control system.
Gate Controller
Lighting
PoE is way cool!
Custom PLC projects for customers.

RE: Server 2019 randomly DNS stops
I run into this all the time. So far no resolution.
But to get back running again, I run this, and it works every time. I believe I suffer from DNS poisoning very often and I don't know why. If you are suffering the same, give it a try and report back. This is NOT the same as ipconfig /flushdns.
dnscmd /clearcache
You can also do this from the UI:

This is not because Elastic is bad, it is because it is complex. Which is why it is a poor solution for people like @JasGot
Unless a person has the time to really learn elastic and how to do things well, it jsut turns into a mess.Yea, I'm not in the mood to learn something that complex for a one off.
