the controller runs quite well on a raspberry pi. ideal for small networks.

what a waste of time. i canned it and went with centrify express, worked 1st time.

and i have getent passwd working but when i try to su to the user it just stops. if i restart the sssd service it will cause su to return
su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info.
any ideas anybody?

@scottalanmiller not a fan so far. will keep playing with it, but it hasn't impressed me yet. still, that's the beauty of linux, you have such a wide choice for desktop managers.

i've upgraded 3 different models of hp desktop, 1 lenovo laptop and one white box here, all went smoothly.

btw, when i did do the A+, the test was so outdated at the time (asking about 8 and 16 bit isa, eisa, mca, etc) that some of our very capable younger techs found it more like a history exam and had to go learn things they would probably never have to see or use again unless they worked in a museum. i seriously hope they have improved it.

the only time an A+ requirement came up was when I was told it was a pre-requisite for entry to server certification for IBM. Our corporate decided (probably over a game of golf) that we were to move from dell to IBM. IBM wouldn't let us open anything unless we were certified, so i had to go get one. They wouldn't waive the prerequisite even though i had 15 years experience by that time. So, as basic as it is, i'd say get it out of the way just in case. it won't kill you

@guyinpv community edition is unlimited and we had no use for the extra pro features, but yes, horses for courses.

@guyinpv odd, i have had no issues with clients, everything is done via https. as far as pricing goes, i use the free version and have about 30 users. no stability issues whatsoever.
