How do people use PowerShell? Just opening it takes so long I forget why I was opening it!

Like @dafyre - I don't seem to have this issue. But then again, I am on a Windows machine. Could it be a Linux issue (of sorts)?

It's FAR worse on Windows than on Linux. Like 10x longer, maybe?

Maybe Windows users are just used to things being so slow that they don't notice?

I'd wager you have something going on on that system. I click the Powershell icon and start typing.

Find me a system where it is fast. I've never seen PS come up quickly, never once.

My laptop and every server I connect to.

Can you video that? I've never seen it, literally, never. How are you getting it to be fast? Or do we have totally different definitions of fast?

You honestly don't believe us that powershell can open quickly?

I honestly do not. I think it is far more likely that you have a higher tolerance for slowness and see what I see as a delay as "normal".

It's literally opening in less than a second on everything I try.

On the first time that you open, or only after it's been used on machines that are already running?

First and every time.

Okay, so I try a 2012 R2 box and it was super fast. So clearly not slow every time for me. Maybe I only notice when it is slow, but it's often enough that I expect it.

What OSes do you have? Maybe it is just 2016?

2008 R2 through to 2016. I've had it slow on 2008 before but definitely a vast minority.

@eddiejennings Does 'gdr' in PowerShell give you what you want? I've not tested for any parameters yet.

Puppy Linux is the lightest weight distro that I've ever used that is still around today.

If you need something that works on ancient hardware, I'd highly recommend it.

How's it like for drivers? Last time I was trying some extremely lightweight Linux OSes the wireless was often a pain to get drivers for.

Was it not working at all without doing this?

We've been installing loads of Ubiquiti in our schools and never had to do this. Great to know though, thanks.
