    • RE: Rethinking my backup strategy

      @matteo-nunziati

      Everyone said good stuff, I used T440 especially the T440p. They are okay and much better than T460. The hardware and assembly are rigid, however, the software part, especially Lenovo apps are rubbish and you want to avoid.

      My simple advice, put everything in 1 parent folder, like D:\YOUR NAME and spawn many many subs, and never put anything outside of the folder, end of the day, hit it with robocopy sync to fast local drive, I love Samsung micro sd cards with 60 MB/s they are cheap and durable.

      50 GiB worth of backup will take you first run 15 mins, future runs will take seconds. You can automate it via script. You can buy another one and have 2 backups. You can encrypt them, so if they are lost it is okay. I can't tell you how much I trust robocopy and how much it is smart and avoids all Windows file explorer limitation.

    • RE: Proxies as VPN?

      @emad-r

      They are using reverse proxy squid on a PFsense router as VPN. or to access company resources.

      For example, I think they made LAN 7.7.7.* and put company resource like http://web/company
      and only 7.7.7.* can access it in the config on PFsense.

      It does not work 100% of course. As you can bypass it if you do http://web/company?32141 and access it from WAN

      What do you think about
      Proxies as VPN

      Especially squid proxy? is it a good practice instead of VPN server/client

      I have something to mirror all your android screen efficiently to your screen, without any adware or image tearing.

      It needs some steps to set it up.

      @guyinpv

      How about you build you own, I always loved the simplicity of WebDAV and WINSCP
      Especially since you said 40 GB storage.

      You can create 2 instances on Cloud VPS and enable private networking and backup files there, and let them access via WebDAV.

      Therotically WebDav does support file locking, however you really need to dig deep in that protocol.

      Its more RAW and simple and faster.

      Check clients like CyberDuck for end users as well.

      @wirestyle22

      Nothing, it is very slow. I mean last time I used it, i figured also their marketing recommends it for less than 100 users.

      That said I support sites with slow bandwidth, so Pidgin/OpenFire usually works best but it is very basic.

      It is good cause of being an easy snap install, but if I were you I would steer away from the DB engine that RC uses and use Zulip or Mattermost

    • RE: CentOS 7 Configure MD OBR10 before installation

      @dustinb3403

      Hi,

      You cant but the /boot as raid

      However the / or root part can be placed as raid, I did this and I will show you how to do this, but please don't do it.

      Here where it gets bad.

      You wish to update the system and kernel and all this can affect the RAID/ now the config for the raid is done in the kernel and stored in boot part, so you always updating this and your always keeping the disks busy, even on network packet level. Everything happens will happen on the /

      What you want to do is look into purchasing a small reliable drive
      Like 64 GB or 128 GB NVMe SSD and using that as your /
      or If that is too fancy or expensive, get USB thumb drive and pair it with samsung SD card and install the root part

      Then create RAID 10 on the 4 other drives, cause even if the /root fails it wont matter . pop another one and it will auto detect the raid , with cockpit it is very easy to detect the RAID and activate it and mount it

      I tried once Onlyoffice with that, and it can view office files via web browser and edit them, and I think they managed to do file locking.

      Also there is app that supports manual file lockings, or an addon.

      play with minimal KVM, then appreciate it as it is, cause we appreciate you as you are.

      I just added 3 nodes cluster in 2 mins, very easy too.

      Bumping up my capacity

      Definitely worth more research.

      The only real pitfall currently is no admin tool GUI to manage it and create DB with it, all third party and all with errors when connecting.

      You can only use there native cli which works for developers, that wish to create new apps with it, but not existing users.
