RE: VPN Slowdowns - Anything I Can Do?
@garak0410 said in VPN Slowdowns - Anything I Can Do?:
I understand issues like internet pipes and the "hops" it takes to get back to our office on VPN but we see some significant drops in speed. Some apps that require a lot of file transfers, are almost unusable.
Any patterns to the problem? Are all locations affected? Is there a particular time of day when the connection seems slow? These are just a few things to look for when trying to determine causes for the problem.

Messing around with software raid and mdadm.
Good stuff right there, add a little LVM and you've got a great storage stack.
What I'm wanting to do when redo my lab server is not use the hardware RAID controller and Linux handle the RAID. I'm practicing on some VMs first.
MD or ZFS?

Anyone plan on jumping ship? We only have one site there now and that one might be brought back in house as 95% of the users are internal.
Previous IT director didn't want anything in-house.
I recently deployed a couple of VMs on Linode. I don't see any reason to abandon them right now.

RE: CentOS - What is the current opinion here?
@adamf said in CentOS - What is the current opinion here?:
So I have 1 server that needs migrated from CentOS8. What is the current state/opinion here about migration? Ubuntu is a clear choice, and most likely the path I will take, but wanted to get some other opinions as well. Is anyone using CentOS stream in a production scenario?
Like Jared, I, too, use Fedora in production. CentOS Stream shouldn't be a problem, if you're currently running CentOS 8. For Ansible, I'd run it on Fedora, but I tend to standardize on Fedora and the RHEL ecosystem.

I got to thinking on a chance to do more for work,... only I'd have give up more of my personal time. I may still do some of it,.. but I am about done giving my time away - Paid or unpaid..
This is the last step for completing a project.

Adventures in DSL land last night. For a small while, the ping between my router and the other end of the PPPoE connection was 200ms.
If it makes you feel any better,... my In-Laws had fiber installed yesterday... They are rural... DSL most sorta works out there and the only other option is Sat...
I can't get Fiber likely for another 3-5 years. and I'm about 5 miles from where it currently stops.
I'm on the waiting list for Stalink, and I'm doing some research into fiber or possible a dedicated copper connection. Both of which are a non-trivial expense, but if it might make sense as an investment into the property, then I'll consider the build out.
