Oh those are cool. And @scottalanmiller I could always just toss your clothes under the bed. That would make my side of the closet much less crowded...

RE: Maple Syrup Season
@Joyfano Nope, and even if they did, you only get to make maple syrup when the sap is running, and a freeze and thaw cycle is necessary for that to happen. Cane syrup is similar, but maple syrup has a distinct flavor that's hard to describe if you've never had the real deal.

RE: Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
@ajstringham Where is the cheapest place to buy genuine Brother toner? Maybe the problem is Amazon.
-
RE: Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
@Dashrender Well, I'd have to run the numbers, because the printer is like $80 cheaper than the toner.
-
RE: Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
@ajstringham I dunno, since buying a new printer is cheaper than buying the full set of genuine Brother toner, I think it might be worth it to try the generic toner.

RE: Way Beyond a Roomba
@Dashrender It's amazing on carpet and hard floors. I love Ruby. She's the best.

RE: Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
@JaredBusch Volume discounts, good prices, free shipping, and a 6 month satisfaction warranty. Sounds like a winner!

@JaredBusch Excellent! Thank you, sir. I feel much better about ordering from a place with which someone reputable has experience.

Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
Does anyone have experience purchasing off-brand or "compatible" toner instead of the name brand stuff? My Brother HL-3170 CDW color laserjet is complaining about being low on toner, so I'm looking at prices, and I can save about $100 if I get an off-brand. There are a couple of choices, and they seem to get enough of a range of reviews, that the positive ones could easily be from the seller, so I'm hesitant to buy.

I second the Lynda training.

RE: Cabbies Mad in Sacremento over Hygiene Requirement?
Good point. It doesn't seem like these need to actually be regulations. Isn't that what company reviews are for? If the questionable cleanliness of a cabby concerns you, read reviews and choose a company with good ratings.

Couldn't the 20% of the time when the Earth's magnetic poles are "calm" (is that what he said?) be coincidental?

RE: Cybercriminals use fake MH370 websites to steal data
So many people on my FB feed post bogus links to things. It's so annoying. Verify stuff before you pass it on. Is that so hard?

RE: Standing Desks
As long as you can switch between standing and sitting, it seems like a good idea to me. It's being in the same position for an entire workday, whether it be on your feet or on your bum, that causes problems.

RE: Is This Really Discrimination? #USEDUCATIONSYSTEMFAIL
Oh my gosh, did you catch the part about vandals damaging the break lines of 3 school buses? What the crap is wrong with these people? You're mad at the district for firing a racist principal so you put children's lives in danger? I really, really hope that the FBI finds out who did it, and that they get prosecuted for a hate crime.

RE: Cabbies Mad in Sacremento over Hygiene Requirement?
Well, the deodorant thing is culturally American, so I can understand why certain ethnic groups might take offense. That having been said, I much prefer to be in close quarters with people who smell like soap or deodorant, and not like people. I realize that makes me a snob and culturally insensitive.

RE: Windows 8.1 Updates Coming for Mouse Users
Looks like Windows 8.1 is going to be a little less annoying to use. I'm happy about the power button showing up next to my name.

RE: Wireless electricity may soon power cell phones, cars and even heart pumps
After my family insisted that I was supposed to charge my cell phone before it died, and that it didn't matter to battery life, blah, blah, blah, I tried it. I noticed immediately that the battery seemed to be dying faster and faster, until I was having to keep it plugged in most of the time. I decided to try to fix it, since at the time I still had a year left on my contract before I could renew and get a new phone. I started letting the phone fully discharge, and then fully charge before unplugging it, and after a week or so of this, I conditioned the battery so that now I get a day out of it before having to charge it again.

@PSX_Defector
There must be an inside joke I'm not getting. What's in this screenshot that's a problem? Also, you spelled Scott's name wrong.ETA: Oh! I see it now.
