RE: Small Business Server 2003 to 2012 R2 Migration and Virtualized Domain Controller Questions
when you click Next the wizard should do the forest prep needed to allow you to install a windows 2012 server as a DC.

RE: Windows Won't Burn Discs.
Exactly ^^ which windows OS? By default Windows hasn't had an ISO burner (unless Windows 8 does). But you can download and install one.

RE: Small Business Server 2003 to 2012 R2 Migration and Virtualized Domain Controller Questions
In reading the last few posts - I'm wondering if you can go from 2003 directly to 2012 R2? I did a 2003 R2 (non SBS) to 2012 R2 last week with no problems.
Is your license for Server 2012 R2 a Volume License? If so, you can download a copy of Server 2008 R2, upgrade from 2003 first, remove ADDS from 2003, then transition to the 2012 R2.
I'll see if I can find anything to confirm going from 2003 directly to 2012 R2.

You need to make sure the new server is pointing to the old server for DNS.
Presumably that is the case if you already joined that domain.

RE: If you could live anywhere....
Is that the new enterprise from the newest movie? It definitely looks different than the one from a few years ago (much better, IMO)

RE: Home internet usage monitoring App
Not for a Mac (at least not as far as I know) but I've used BandwidthD in the past.

That's why I mentioned Montevideo - the lowest cost jet setting city in the world. All the amenities of London or New York at a tiny fraction of the price.
Have you been there?

RE: Metal 3D Printing
I was happy to see them embrace converting DVDs and Blurays into digital format with VUDU.
Even happier to see you can do it yourself now at home.

RE: The 3D-printed splint that helped save a baby’s life
The TV shows are definitely picking up on it.

RE: 20 Most Peaceful Countries in the World
Japan at #10 might make it a peaceful place, but considering the Fukushima disaster I sure in the world wouldn't want to live there. Though, I'm not really sure any place is safe to live anymore considering the amount of radiation still pouring into the ocean.

RE: Movie: Divergent
Not that I read it, it's based on a book that's based on a dystopian society. Not the same story, but kinda like Hunger Games. It's also a trilogy.
I found it interesting, not overly futurist in technology. But considering that one of the factions in the movie was dedicated to knowing things, I'm surprised the society seemed to be so low end in the first place.

RE: Reluctant to recommend servers that aren't new?
Until recently I was a 6 year old Q6600 with 8 gig RAM. I was/am surprised how snappy it still was (yeah I too had an SSD and did have to replace a failed video card and power supply) I still have that machine and plan to use it as a lab box - now I need more space on my desk for another monitor.

ubiquiti wireless routers
Anyone have any experience with the Uniquiti AirRouter 802.11 g/n devices?
The reviews seem pretty good, and I've heard that people like Uniquiti on SW.
The price seems scarey cheap.
I'm wondering if this could be good for the home user mentioned in my other thread.
Thoughts?

Six or more years. Desktops don't age like they used to.
You run them for 6 additional years? When did you start that? Other than failure, what do you use as a measure to replace them?
Though I can't say much - we had desktops purchased in 1999 (Windows 98) that were upgraded to XP and the last ones were replaced in 2010.
