That's my next thing. Need a really awesome gaming and media rig. @Dominica and I both prefer PC gaming much of the time and we have a massive Steam and GOG collection to use.

I have a spare Mini-ITX system with 8GB of RAM this may be what I do with it.... Although I don't have a hard drive for it at the moment.

While not an avid gamer, I am surprised at the lack of games for the XBOX One but guessing it will take a good while.

Well the competition is not fierce. I was comparing the XBOX One to the PS4 and found a whopping one game on each that interested me. We have a Wii U and the total number of games that I want to play comes out to exactly... zero. Not a single one.

Apparently this generation is the "gameless" generation. It looks like Steam, GOG and Origin have finally shifted everything to the PC market. Consoles appear to have given up this time around.

I agree. Didn't buy this for games at all. Mild interest in Madden since I love football but it didn't knock my socks off and still, no IN GAME SAVE. Something the PC Madden's had forever.

If I geek out more, I'd be quite interested in a living room STEAM box one day.

Though many a gamer would disagree, I think Microsoft was right in focusing the XBOX One as a Media Center. I wonder if they need to release a media center only version of it at a $99 price point. 🙂

I agree with this. The PC has clearly beaten the console market as far as quantity and quality of games goes for this generation. I tend to think this is because of the cost of entry for developers more then anything else. Microsoft saw that and wanted to make their device the go-to for media consumption.

no real other use for it especially after they locked it down with 8.1.

What do you mean locked down? The RT is an ARM processor - you can't run the full version of 8.1 on that platform. The only real alternative option would be to install Linux assuming you can disable the locked down BIOS/UEFI.

Windows RT 8 there was a jailbreak that allowed you to run ARM apps not on the store on the RT. It was actually useful to run Notepad++ and OpenTTD on trips. They disabled that loophole in Windows RT 8.1.

@Minion-Queen One of the things that our sales team universally loves is how easy they are to use on an airplane.

That's surprising, that's one of the reasons that I don't like it because of the lack of the stable keyboard for use in airplanes, trains and cars. (Not so much cars, that would make me sick quickly.)

I could understand this from the touch-keyboard perspective but the type-keyboard is very usable... not sure about stability I don't think I've ever had an issue with them moving around... although I've never used it on a plane, in a car and on a train though I had no issues with.

I've found ML pretty flaky on Chrome as well. It is really hit and miss whether it is going to work correctly or not. Oddly I don't have the same issues with Gamraha.us.

@Minion-Queen One of the things that our sales team universally loves is how easy they are to use on an airplane. Setting them up on a seat-back tray is much easier then using a full fledged laptop;.

We've cheated a bit though, all the sales people are setup with a USB 3.0 port replicator and dual monitors at their "office". Which makes it much more like a desktop replacement then a true convertible laptop. Although the unplugging one cable and going thing is another point they all universally love.

I've got a Surface RT which is basically a PDF reading device right now... no real other use for it especially after they locked it down with 8.1. The Surface Pro series though has been fantastic and we have been purchasing those for our sales people for almost two years now.

I'm very pleased with OpenSuse so far. This is the first release I've tested since college and am having a lot of luck with it. Configuration is fairly simple, I am using it in text only mode running a web server. Installing packages and configuring the firewall are simple. Should have tried this distro out sooner.

Hopefully, by the time any of us die, we'll be in a world without HDDs and it'll all be SSDs...

Hopefully by the time I die we will have digitized the brain. Here's hoping for a digital immortality.

@thanksaj Yep this is what I get for suggesting something when I don't read the documentation.

Asynchronous DNS is designed so that you can load a page as you get DNS responses back instead of loading it when you get all the responses back. It should make page loading quicker.

There used to be an experimental flag that did what you are asking... I just can't find it anymore.

@thanksaj There is a flag for Asynchronous DNS in chrome://flags. I think that may be the setting you are looking for. It is experimental though. Nope ignore this, not what you are looking for.
