Their Endoint Recovery Free would work for backups in this scenario as well. And with that one, you do get file-level restores.

Unfortunately, it'd have to be loaded per VM, and is Windows only at the moment (Linux version just hit beta).

So, before rolling-out this project, I wanted to get a confirmation from all the vendors, on how their application would perform/react in a Virtualized environment, including vSANs (such as StarWind)... None , except one vendor (Apogee PrePress), seemed to have any issues... The surprising response we received from Apogee is that they've never tested their system with vSAN, nor do they have any customer references for the same... Hence, they would not be supporting it ... Major bummer !! :slight_frown:

Also, how are databases affected, when stored on a vSAN ?

How does that make sense. To the application the server is no different then a physical box. Literally the application can't tell the difference between a VM and a physical machine.

vSAN is just block storage. It is presented no differently then iSCSI or Fibrechannel.

This is basically the security through obscurity argument. If knowing the CMS you are running is a security issue you should probably be using a different CMS that doesn't have the easy to access vulnerabilities.

Yeah, during this thought process, I'll likely be talking myself out of most things that would be just a virtualized version of current architecture.

So green field it. Ignore current infrastructure for a bit. How would you make this work in an ideal environment. Then look at where what you have now differs from that ideal. Are those differences necessary? Would moving them toward ideal adversely effect users?

I've got a client who has about 1.2TB of data and is currently using Backup Exec as their backup solution. They run full backups every night and take each backup tape (yes tapes!) offsite once backup is complete. It's time to change their backup solution since the business has grown and it now takes like 21 hours to run their backup. I was thinking of some sort of NAS, but they still want to take their backups offsite like they do with their tapes. Any suggestions?

Have you mentioned a cloud backup solution BackBlaze's B2 solution may be good for them?
