RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller Nice, how are you getting them to access their desktop? VPN? Gucamole?

@WrCombs Nice to see someone else using Greenshot
Lots of people do, it is pretty popular.
It's brilliant, been using it for years.

RE: Comparing MeshCentral 2 to ScreenConnect
@NashBrydges said in Comparing MeshCentral 2 to ScreenConnect:
Realize this thread was comparing to SC but wondering how would this compare to Apache Guacamole? I haven't yet had time to try to set this up but thought I'd ask.
Guacamole is more a perimeter gateway interface for accessing machines inside of the LAN.
Meshcentral has client agents that you can install on machines and can access these machines across WAN. it's very much more like an RMM product. -

Another useless idea going to be implemented by our government. I believe all this is a one way direction of internet control by our government. They must know this can once again be bypassed by vpn. All home ISPs in the uk already have family filter enabled by default when you sign up, the same with mobile company's.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just installed another SSD into my main home pc.
Going to install Deepin on this. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@DustinB3403 I can understand your frustration, I've had this on various occasions, one comes to mind was a company had Adobe licence subscription and installed demos because they couldn't remember which email account out of 20 they registered them to..... sigh....a simple job becomes a pain in the ass...

@DustinB3403 your weekend not going to plan then?

RE: dbeato why are you migrating from Hyper-V to XCP-ng
@Pete-S I've been a fan of the GUI when using xencenter in the past. I believe personally it's an outdated way to manage a hypervisor these days, especially with web based management, which is obviously not platform dependent.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scotth nothing wrong with the specs of that system, perfect for learning with to be honest.
Don't overthink VDI, it's really just a collection of VM's with management tools for automatically creating machines from base images, load balancing, gateway management etc.Microsoft have their solution built into windows server called Remote Desktop Services, Citrix have their solution which adds more functionality on top of this and use a different connection protocol called ICA which uses less resources than RDP. VMware have their solution called VMware Horizon View.
I don't use VDI per say, I use session based desktops (shared Desktop) and would recommend using this for most scenarios, VDI is expensive, needs fast storage and needs to be setup and planned correctly. I've seen a company use a VDI solution that was crap to use due to the SAN being flakey and the environment not being setup correctly. VDI is excellent if used in the correct manner and for the correct purpose though.
There are trials you can use, download windows server evaluation and start off with RDS and see how you get on, I believe Citrix and VMware have trials for their products as well.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scotth it's entirely up to you if you would want to do this or not. I have dedicated servers in a Datacenter and have my own lab server at home and look after a couple of rds environments so this subject matter is of interest to me. What equipment are you running in your lab?

RE: Non-IT News Thread
Our government has completely failed, and while this whole Brexit stuff is going on our streets are becoming unsafe, murder rates through the roof due to all the stabbings in and around London, our health system is being stretched to the limits. Our country is a shambles.
Even though we have a queen, she's only has the power to dissolve government, which she would never do. The queen remains impartial with politics. I believe they step very carefully these days as well because there is a movement of people, especially younger generation that feel we should go republic. I personally like having a monarchy and I feel it's great for bringing in tourism.
People want to leave the EU due to stopping free movement and to be able to manage our own laws, bring back our fisheries which the EU limits. I know something though, our country is so devided at the moment and the deal offered was a bad deal, But by taking no deal off the table we have lost all our bargaining power. Brexit will be fully watered down now I believe and we will still will end up staying in the EU, and probably will still be restricted on our trade deals...in essence it's all been a waste of time...

RE: Non-IT News Thread
@scottalanmiller when we voted back in 2016 there was two options on the ballot paper and that was in or out of the EU, there was no option that we must leave with a deal. They are destroying democracy by not listening to the will of the people that voted to leave.

They have done great with it though, full praise to them for starting that project.

RE: dbeato why are you migrating from Hyper-V to XCP-ng
@DustinB3403 the naming I find a bit weird XCP-NG....not as freindly on the tongue as xenserver lol.
