@BRRABill I've noticed that usually does the trick...I very rarely have to start clean with my iPhone.

RE: Who is the Real IT Manager?
I must be lucky...I'm not micro managed and routinely asked for advice on how we can improve processes etc.

RE: Anyone have Fixed Wireless?
Yep... If I was there I would have most likely driven 2 hours to location to meet the repair guy.

RE: Anyone have Fixed Wireless?
While at Mangocon, one of my locations had a bad storm blow through and tore the wireless radio off the side of the building. Short of that I've had very stable connections even in weather.

RE: UBNT NVR + UBNT cam for small school?
@Mike-Davis said in UBNT NVR + UBNT cam for small school?:
I've been asked to put together a video surveillance system for a small private (and non profit) school. Any reason not to go with a UBNT NVR, UBNT ToughSwitch PoE, and as many cameras as I need?
As of right now, just know that if they need a specialty camera that UBNT doesnt make (like a PTZ one) you will have to switch the NVR software, UBNT-NVR software does not support 3rd party cameras.

RE: Recovering yet?
@scottalanmiller I actually went home a day early... I got a new nephew and wanted to see him.

RE: Recovering yet?
I had a sore throat, but blamed it on too much alcohol and the expulsion of said alcohol

@MattSpeller I know...as far as I'm concerned we haven't had a good president since the 1980s
History will probably agree with you (probably even earlier than the 80s) but I am a fan of Bill and Obama - neither are saints but neither completely screwed the pooch as it were.
Still would charge both with war crimes, ditto the Bushes and I'd just lock up a few others and forget about the keys (kissenger, etc)
Haha...outside of an IT forum I would argue those with you...but I hate when political discussions happen on here.

I like that idea a lot. Had to be "extra", can't be without the local option #becausehotelnetworks
That sounded like a disaster. So, there was just no WiFi or what?
Wifi was very spotty - it kicked you out after 2-4 mins of inactivity and appeared to be a shared 1 Mb for everyone.
After everyone left I was getting 5mbps

There really isn't anything too special as normal backups tend to be LANless already. Not always, but generally. Some backup tools rely on SMB/NFS which is not very LANless, but lots don't.
You consider backups that are stored separately from other files generally safer, right?
What about a backup system that mounts the CIFS / NFS path when the backups start, and then unmounts them when it has completed?
You still have an issue where Crypto-whatever 's are scanning the networks for CIFS/NFS shares.
True, but generally such shares are only writable to a particular user / server.
True, that is what I do for mine. I have my NAS's management service and file services on separate networks. I can only access the NAS file services from my backup server... I still have risk if that backup server ends up executing a crypto-whatever, but that is a small threat window (and I also have offsite copies that are not accessible from that server.)

RE: MangoCon 2017 Topic Ideas
Depending on size of conference and number of training topics, etc, I could see something where you had traditional sessions in the morning then a couple of training options after lunch where you could choose one that you would find beneficial for you.
