    • RE: Hypervisors: revisit your choices!

@JaredBusch Couldn't have said this better myself. I received the email from Veeam about the increase too, but all my current licenses are good through Dec 2020.
If there was a good backup solution for KVM, I would have zero Hyper-V hosts.

    • RE: Video editing - suggestions

While not technically monitors, I was using a pair of Mackie SRM150 Powered Speakers as PC speakers for a while. Very nice and powerful. My son just swapped out a pair of monitors for speakers today.

    • RE: RAID5 SSD Performance Expectations

I was looking at some specs on one of my machines and decided to look at the difference for a SSD and spinner. Pretty interesting... The IOPS difference is more than I would have guessed.

    • RE: user files

@AshKetchum If I need to copy files from a user, I just browse to their machine and copy. I just go to
"\nameofpc\c$" and copy files. The users won't have a clue. I do this all the time when I am migrating users to new workstations. There should be 2 backslash before the pc name. Not sure why its not showing up correctly here.

@scottalanmiller Try telling that to the auditors. Dealing with those folks make me want to drink.

    • RE: NAS for Plex use... Again

@stacksofplates That is what I did the last time. Bought empty caddies and SATA drives.

    • RE: NAS for Plex use... Again

@JaredBusch I have Hyper-V at home with Nginx, Nextcloud, Bookstack, PiHole, and Plex. Don't have a colo close enough. My internet service with 1 static is cheaper than the cost of colo.

I haven't had a good enough reason to move away from Hyper-V yet. I always contemplate it. I've had a spare server with KVM in my lab and it was great and light on resources.

What made you switch from Hyper-V?

    • RE: Why I Choose LibreOffice

I have been using LO for at least a few years, maybe more. I do not own a copy of MS Office nor have a PC that it is installed on. For my normal use, LO does everything I need it to and more. If I share a file with someone else, I send it as a PDF anyway.
If someone wants or thinks they must have Office, good for them. My opinion is that Outlook is a big reason people purchase Office. Again, they just use it for basic sending/receiving emails, and none of the features it has when paired with Exchange.

    • RE: pi-Hole: Dashboard times out

@black3dynamite I use it at home and have zero complaints. My wife gets frustrated when she goes somewhere else and notices all the ads/crap that load.

    • RE: SIP Intercom for noisy environment ...

Very familiar with scale houses. I had planned on experimenting with an outdoor SIP intercom speaker for this exact purpose. I was going to mount it on a pole at the average height for the truck's driver-side window.

In the end, they just put up a sign letting the drivers know what CB channel to talk to the scale house on. It worked fine and was of course cheaper.

If I am using a Windows machine I normally use Angry IP scanner. It has always worked well for me.

    • RE: Virtualization Host

@travisdh1 Yes, this will be on one host with internal storage. The data will reside in another VM on the same host. They wanted a 10g network if the data was to reside on a NAS or other repository. I will most likely have the backups on one of the existing hosts at another location.
