RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Yea, but I don't think that community is going anywhere - as well as the annual conference. Here is what will happen: They will be sold within 2 years to a giant (HP is my guess) and it will carry on as a free program for a while, until... who knows...

RE: Hot Topics for MangoCon 2019
Guest speaker Bob Beatty will be there to talk about the do's and don'ts of doing business in Panama and how to keep up with SAM at a bar when it's midnight and you just want to go to bed. There will also be a lunch and learn on how to hire beautiful women in IT with co-speaker Scott Alan Miller.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Sitting in El Valle, at a table with Paul Chiodo, texting with Scott Alan Miller, wishing I was taking a nap. Scott - good thing you left, Mami made us eat a bunch of food. We begged her to not make us eat dinner. No mas!

That reminded me to give my work speed a test
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3355512045Sorry about the previous post, still getting use to this community. I meant say "holy jamoly" Nic - you got some go fast parts on that there network! lol!
The funny thing is how much of it they give me access to. You'd think they'd limit my pipe to something reasonable On the side of our IT department they do block things like IRC and Steam, so I can't just do whatever I want.
Steam on your network would be awesomeness!

Designing a DMZ via Virtualization (using esxi). Trolling Mangolassi. Updating my facebook with the latest anti obama meme's and trying to think of an excuse to get out of going line dancing tonight with my wife.

Streaming live video to the masses
Scenario: I am going to be at a golf tournament (semi-pro) and want to stream video so that it can be viewed by the masses. How/where do I start? What equipment would you recommend? Should I do this with a cloud based vendor? Am I going to need a dedicated wireless network at the golf course, etc...?
Gracias
Bob Beatty.

RE: Elements of a good IT career
Quality Customer Service. I'll take an IT pro that wants to make things better for his clients any day over the know-it-all asshole that thinks he is not replaceable. If you strive to provide the best service you can to your client (end users, supervisor, company - even the janitor), then you will do the things necessary to maintain that effect- study, test things, offer services with a positive attitude, and learn to say "no problem" with honest discussion about getting the results.
Never lie, steal or manipulate. Always do the right thing. Never jump ship just for money. -

RE: Shadow Copies Are Not A Backup Replacement

@scottalanmiller Yup. Walking into an environment and hearing someone say that snapshots are their backup strategy...here's what you do.
- Apply face to palm.
- Remove face from palm.
- FIRMLY apply palm to other person's face. Repeat until sense has been enabled.
I sort of did this until about 6 years ago - A VMWARE expert who was helping me setup my infrastructure laid it out for me about snapshots. Whenever I talk about them now, I express that my policy is that snapshots are only allowed to live on my network for a few hours, until I am assured that I don't need to immediately go back to it. It is a fall back process, not a backup strategy.

@scottalanmiller A couple of them looked like they were being held by a cable or something - I'm skeptic...

RE: Learning Linux
Great post - this has motivated me to jump in the water with you Joy. I'm gonna start my Nix/Nux adventure and with setting up a media server at my house. I'm lucky to have some pretty strong hardware (a Dell 4U Rack Mount Server) to install on. @roguepacket - thanks for all the links above!

RE: Elio Fuel Efficient Cars
@ajstringham How do I include a quote when replying? I wanted to include the part where A.J. says he is really weird and I wanted to agree.

RE: Discussion Room - Pertino
Do I install an agent on each machine, and control this from a Central Server (I'm assuming web based, cloud administration?)?
