RE: XO Failure to Update issue - Posting for BC
Initially ran like it shows:
sudo curl...
and had several permission errors...
(probably would have done better had I read the entire thing!!)found doing this works
sudo bash
enter pass
creates a bash @ root no sudo needed now runs
curl.... |bashnow things installing properly & running properly
- going back to original and seeing if it will work if I update correctly...

RE: Xerox Workcentre 5755 - Can't Scan to Windows Server 2012 R2
Can you change smb between v1/2 on those?
Otherwise clonezilla(whoops"filezilla") ftp server makes it even easier than iis ftp. Can even setup/run multiple ftp ... Airways like to run with write permissions but no read. Able to dump file/files but not actually see it via ftp.

RE: Fanless Security DVR... anybody got a favorite
@Joyfano Not a fan of qsee / lorex brands..
they work - but are pretty cheap...
the remote viewing can be a pain with the applications... have setup countless of these and they work - but reviewing recordings isn't as reliable smooth as it could be...that said many have this issue in that price range... qsee/lorex are both pretty "Cost Effective"

RE: Any Experience with DreamHost?
Yeah... I have then for a vps...
Dedicated hosting box isn't bad but by default they don't put mysql on the box and instead push people for a second vps for mysql/use shared mysql. Update the wiki for installing mysql on the same box for those that want it faster, cms db calls still not very good.Shared is what I'm using because it was free... But they didn't see any latency issues apparently with having web host in westcoat and assigned shared mysql in Virginia.... Took years to catch that and get it moved to the same state, still not sure if even in the same datacenter.
Next complaint was some big outages ( have to admit though they seem to be holding reliability better over that past year).
So far their pricing has kept me but the downtime awhile back and limited support is fairly irritating.

RE: Fanless Security DVR... anybody got a favorite
Only ones I saw at the show that were really fanless were mobile DVRs but none were IP.
Plenty like everfocus, honeywell but had quite a few moving parts (Fans). Most were saying locate the DVR somewhere less dirty... Or use a filtered housing...
Brickcom had some new camera 1mp pinhole and their NVR is PC based so you could build your own.
Pretty much could Build your own for anything.
Would look really similar to a fanless home theater PC. (htpc). -
RE: WD external disk error
Tried what exactly with windows?
my computer > E/F drive access?
yes that will get denied... should actually come up with a message about granting access unless its formatted with some other partition like reiser/etc
under windows you should be right clicking my computer and choosing manage then seeing the disk loaded...
Make sure you're looking at the right one... they load 2 disks... CD (WD Ware) + Open Storage
in the disk manager you'll see if it can read the partition format - if its ntfs / other - no matter what you'll be able to wipe the storage side via any OS but can't wipe the non-storage CD Side... not without a little firmware flash / using WDWare tools to turn it offI'm wondering if he's seeing the virtual CDRom that these load... and not the actual storage...

RE: 3D PDF - Anyone Heard of This?
Bluebeam as shown above has just as much power..
Love pulling models apart via 3D PDF... Will upload a snowmobile example or enviorodome cad examples. Makes it really awesome with BB doing markups & callouts...
Bb vu is much lighter than cads viewers and dont have to Hunt down xrefs shx fonts and all the other things engineers won't send along with files

RE: Fanless Security DVR... anybody got a favorite

http://www.moxa.com/product/MxNVR-IA8_Series.htmactually today going to vegas ISC/Interops shows and will look at many of these...
Same week as interop makes it nice to do both!

RE: Fanless Security DVR... anybody got a favorite
If Ubiquity would get off their rear end and allow other cameras their NVR would be pretty nice
http://www.ubnt.com/airvisionany mobile DVR might work typically fanless..(never mind bad environment)
why fanless by the way? -
RE: What is Your Favourite Movie?
Weird Science / Val kimer genius movie (can't remember name) real genius? / antitrust /
Goonies / maybe never ending story
Hackers - above good call!

RE: Android KitKat update
Been running it fine on droid maxx for quite awhile
Battery just about the same or better than jellybean. They say it's supposed to be better, I say about the same...
Only buy maxx devices for users now and only for battery life... Tired of complaints.

RE: WD external disk error
any of these simply need another power supply..
Unless its making clicking sounds, I usually try another ~same power supply. Have had both Seagate and WD do similar things. -
RE: Compatible toner / ink vs. genuine toner / ink
@Nara said:
I'm seeing a sub-thread developing here. Outsourcing supplies procurement's the way to go. There's companies that'll handle everything from TP to trash bags to toner and paper, and send a rep by to make sure your stock levels are holding. All you need to do is train users on how to change toner, and you'll never deal with the procurement and replacement process again.
Nope users are the cause of most of our toner / paper loading issues...
Same vendor that gets us compatibles also does all the replacement of toners instead of having one of our users do it... Occasionally I'll do it but also I don't check for all the possible issues that he does...
If we buy his toners - he does this for free and pretty quickly too...
Canon correction - I am using compatible toners just not compatible image units... image units we had 2-3 bad out of the box and switched back to OEMs.
This guy also fixes our copiers at ~$85 vs $125 that others are charging - and usually fixes our desktop printers (the ones that are still around) old laser jet 2100 / 5000 / 5100s still running strong. -
RE: Who uses what Web Browser and Why
Chrome mainly Firefox occasionally IE rarely..
Users - Primarily IE 10/11 a few IE8s
