    • File server/Document management system

I am currently checking for a file server/document management system solution for a friend of mine. His company needs a solution, currently looking at SharePoint online (Migration will be from local file server). What they are more interested is to have compliance, security, DLP etc. Box is another option, but I don't really like the waterfall permission rights that's been used on box.

I am checking if NextCloud enterprise has some features that matches box for example https://www.box.com/security/governance-and-compliance

What would be the solutions if the requirement is more on the above-mentioned features?

@Ambarishrh You are starting to sound like @aaronstuder.

Please be more clear that you are posting something you found and not something you sell or made. Unless it is something you sell or make, then be more clear that you do.

@JaredBusch My profile doesn't show that I am a service provider, neither have i mentioned on any of my posts that i sell or made something and I believe if I share something of that kind, it would rather go to self promotion section. Due to this i don't think i need to mention that every share i do here needs to mention that it is something i found, or to be clear unless i mention specifically, it is always the case that i found something and wanted to share it with the ML community! 🙂

    • RE: How do you test your website

@Kimberley-Paessler said in How do you test your website:

@DustinB3403 If you (or your customer) are using PRTG, you could use the "cloud ping" and "cloud http" sensors to monitor reachability from around the world. Those sensors will try to reach your website from 5 different AWS data centers, and will report on reachability and response time from each of those data centers. If something goes wrong, you can get an alert, so you know you need to react. The free version of PRTG will let you run 5 cloud http and 5 cloud ping sensors.

If that's not enough, check out services such as https://www.site24x7.com/, which provide similar ongoing monitoring on a larger scale.

If a one-time or manual test is enough, check out services like https://tools.pingdom.com/ or https://www.webpagetest.org/, which are free and don't require any setup on your side, but only provide a snapshot of up/down at the time you try them.

Along with pingdom, we usually use https://geopeeker.com which also gives a snapshot from multiple locations

If you were doing a real road trip, or want to really get on the road, you can join me next year in August, 2018 (the whole month). I'm going to do about 8-9k miles or so.

We've decided to reach NY and take the train to Rochester. So i need to book amtrack, not sure if i can do it from here and how early do i need to book

    • DNS record will help prevent unauthorized SSL certificates

DNS record will help prevent unauthorized SSL certificates. Starting in September, certificate authorities will be required to honor a new DNS record that specifies who is authorized to issue certificates for a domain.

In a few months, publicly trusted certificate authorities will have to start honoring a special Domain Name System (DNS) record that allows domain owners to specify who is allowed to issue SSL certificates for their domains.

The Certification Authority Authorization (CAA) DNS record became a standard in 2013 but didn't have much of a real-world impact because certificate authorities (CAs) were under no obligation to conform to them.

The record allows a domain owner to list the CAs that are allowed to issue SSL/TLS certificates for that domain. The reason for this is to limit cases of unauthorized certificate issuance, which can be accidental or intentional, if a CA is compromised or has a rogue employee.

Under existing industry rules created by the CA/Browser Forum, an organization that combines major browser vendors and CAs, certificate authorities must validate that requests for SSL certificates originate from domain owners themselves or from someone in control of those domains.

This ownership verification is typically automated and involves asking the domain owner to create a DNS TXT record with a specific value or to upload authorization codes at a specific location in their site's structure, thus proving their control over the domain.

However, hacking into a website could also give an attacker the ability to pass such verifications and request a valid certificate for the compromised domain from any certificate authority. Such a certificate could later be used to launch man-in-the-middle attacks against users or to direct them to phishing pages.

    • Træfɪk, a modern reverse proxy

I am currently working on a complete application lifecycle for us which includes Docker, Vagrant, git, continuous integration, continuous deployment etc. Part of making few standard docker images for our developers for solutions like Drupal, Wordpress etc, found this amazing reverse proxy called traefik.

      https://traefik.io/

Træfɪk is a modern HTTP reverse proxy and load balancer made to deploy microservices with ease. It supports several backends (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes, Marathon, Mesos, Consul, Etcd, Zookeeper, BoltDB, Rest API, file…) to manage its configuration automatically and dynamically.

Sure, but show me an expensive once that is good. Cloudways looks great, but lacks a Softaculous-like component that a lot of people are looking for.

      What is missing? https://www.cloudways.com/en/wordpress-cloud-hosting.php

Softaculous, like I said 🙂 Softaculous has nearly 500 web apps that it installs and manages for you. Cloudways has like five.

But if you are using cloudways hosting only for Wordpress, you don't need softaculous. CW already have one click app setup for WP.

But then which bits am I using CloudWays for?

      WP-CLI does simple installs.

Cloudways gives you along with one click WP install, there are options like scale the server resources—CPU, RAM, and storage—whenever needed, varnish cache, lets encrypt with auto renewal and on top of that you can still choose vultr for the infrastructure
