I have a client who wants to change their current Segate Black Armor to a new drive for 2 reasons;
Its bit old i guess is more than 3 years, and Accessing files on MAC is painfully slow. I am waiting for them to give me admin access, to see if theres an option to enable afp on it. (not sure if it already supports afp). The slowness on MACs happens mainly on a huge folder of 1TB which is full of images. Windows, it loads faster, fairly easy, on MAC, just to show up the folder list itself takes almost a minute

If they need to go with a new device, I was thinking about choosing Synology. Had given Qnap to one of my previous client, and he is happy with that. just 5 users for Qnap, basic mapped drive on windows.

But this one has around 30-50 users, 90% on MAC and works with images and documents. Suggestions please.

No central login system as AD or similar, so most probably i need to create user account on the NAS and map the drives. Total capacity of storage looking at 5TB.

Just read about further hardening servers via ssh access. IP restricting the SSH key access too, sounds like a good idea. This way even if your SSH key falls into wrong hands, they won't be able to connect unless its from those allowed IPs. Giving only access to servers via the VPN also be a good practice i guess

I would like to share my painful experience with a product called GoatCase. https://www.goatcase.com/

It is an antigravity case that can be used for an iPhone or Android.

So i saw this on youtube and placed an order immediately around the first days of Jan 2017, a tracking number was given for globegistics and i could see that the order left their facility. After few days and some minor updates i saw a note that its left transit and on its way to destination. Fast forward a month, no updates on the tracking site. So i contacted GoatCase and after some time of twitter DM's and mails i got a response on their online chat that the shipment is lost. Since its their shipping providers fault, they offered me another one for no extra charge, i was very happy and continued to wait.

3 days ago, got an email from them saying the order is back with them because i rejected to pay the shipping charge, where actually i never ever received the package. But after some time during the chat, the agent again mentioned, "sorry the shipment is lost place another order!"

I am done with GoatCase and would like to inform all my friends to not to order with them if possible! Asked for a refund now and waiting for them on chat as i type this.
