New Laptop Considerations

Inspiron is gonna suck nard if you ever have to open it up for upgrades or repair. I wouldn't take a Dell consumer laptop if you paid me $500. I don't have any other suggestions for a real laptop at that price point, but be aware that if you plan to put an ssd or RAM into it, you will get pissed off at the disassembly required to get to the components.

@thwr None of the laptops you mentioned here have the dedicated GPU.
Oh, sorry, I will let my Nvidia card in my (aging) T410s know

The use case for this laptop is very much along the lines of consumer use.
Sure I'll use it as my daily driver for work etc but 98% of the time, all consumer use.
What kind of GPU are you looking for? Gaming or CAD (e.g. FirePro / Quadro)?

The disassembly guide can be found here Direct link to the PDF. The base cover (underside) has screw to hold it all together.

Gaming usage. I'm not a CAD kind of person.

Ah, now this is a whole different story. Forget about 99% of the business and workstation class notebooks - they are almost always Quadro or FirePro.
What's your price point? Like 550$?

It is at this point, since I've got a hell of a deal sitting in front of me for it.
I wasn't really looking until the deal was here.

That is drastically different than the previous generation of Inspirons... but still, I don't really like consumer grade garbage. Dell Precision FTW, but not in your budget of $550-ish.

Agree, but like he said, there's not much room if you want a gaming thingy for $550. You don't even get a cheapo ThinkPad for that (not looking at the GPU at all)

I guess you won't find something better (if you don't have a contract like I do where I can get something for EDU discounts). The 960M is Ok, and given the price...
